Couldn't quite land the hat-trick when finishing third behind the comfortable winner Hillgrove Angel at Hamilton (1m3f, good) last week, but continues in solid form and should be more suited by both trip and ground; serious player in this race.
Won on four occasions during the course of 2018, including over C&D (good to firm) in September; higher in the weights, and arguably stronger on the AW at Wolverhampton; raced keenly when a beaten favourite here latest; isn't discounted.
Yet to win outside of maiden company (7f), so it's asking an awful lot to expect her to be competitive off a 330-day absence; wind surgery and the application of a first-time hood could be possible reasons for any upturn in fortunes.
His sole win from 23 starts came at this track (1m+) in July 2017, and he was also placed off a 3lb higher mark over C&D in August 2018; has performed very poorly so far in 2019, so is therefore difficult to enthuse over.
2lb lower than when winning at odds of 40/1 over an extended mile at Hamilton (good to firm) around this time last year; beaten a neck on sole C&D start (good to soft) in September 2018; place shout.
Left Mark Walford for a mere £2,000 at last month's Doncaster sales; sole win came over 7f at Ayr (good) in August 2017; last seen in competitive action over hurdles (debut) at Market Rasen.
27-race maiden who has been campaigned exclusively on the AW since finishing last of 14 (100/1) over an extended mile here last August; in better form of late but far from an obvious winner in waiting either.
Handles cut and is a previous course winner (September 2014) but that's about all that he has in his favour on return from a whopping 549 days off the track; unconsidered.
Five-race maiden who switches to turf for her handicap debut (has competed in Classified Stakes races); has shown precious little ability to date, and is quite possibly flattered by an official rating of just 39; look elsewhere.
Forecasts
Majeste (13/8), Whatwouldyouknow (5/2), Dutch Coed (7/1), Size Matters (9/1), Mont Royal (10/1), Zarkavon (10/1), Ventura Royal (14/1), Aneedh (33/1), Late For The Sky (66/1)
A thick black line can be inked through the vast majority of those declared, which almost certainly means that the in-form MAJESTE holds every chance of recording a third win in his last four starts. Rebecca Bastiman's 5yo acquitted himself well over a longer trip at Hamilton (third), but dropping back a furlong on softer ground should further play to his strengths. Of the others, only Whatwouldyouknow makes any form of appeal, albeit with a cautionary glance at the betting advisable for the returning (and possibly clean winded) filly Ventura Royal.
- Majeste
- Whatwouldyouknow
- Dutch Coed
