Just 1lb higher than when making all to score by ½L in a Class 5 handicap over C&D (good to firm) in April; slightly below that level of form in two subsequent starts.
Won back-to-back April Class 6 handicaps (Wolverhampton and Leicester) for tonight's rider Laura Coughlan; difficult to be positive about his three subsequent starts, including on bottomless ground at Haydock (1m2f) 11 days ago.
Goes well at this track and is now 5lb lower than when finishing fourth of 11 to Archive over C&D (good to firm) in April; handles softer ground and could well figure prominently in the final reckoning.
Infrequent winner (1-29 on the Flat); often finds himself on the back foot from the start; taken out of a planned engagement at Carlisle on June 11th (heavy ground) and is set to make his first start for 190 days.
Showed some early promise for former trainer Hugo Palmer, but has struggled badly since joining Stella Barclay; an unlikely solution to a weak race despite the steady and prolonged drop down the handicap.
Without a win since the summer of 2017, when taking back-to-back soft ground 1m2f handicaps at Doncaster and Leicester; 9lb below her last winning mark, but with precious few positives to take from three starts in 2019 (hurdles, AW, turf).
12lb lower than when winning a 1m2f Class 5 handicap at Ripon (good) in April 2018; beaten just under 6L when hitting the frame behind the subsequent easy winner Jackhammer at Carlisle (1m1f, heavy) last month; boasts C&D winning form.
Lightly-raced since late 2017, and has fallen back to a very low handicap mark (45); his sole turf win came over the extended mile here (good) in August 2017 when beating Graceful Act by an ever-widening 6L; there's far worse options.
15-race maiden; has shown precious little since finishing a nose second to I Am Dandy in a 7f Class 7 handicap at Newcastle in December; stamina in doubt; others much preferred.
Always tends to give his very best at Beverley, a track which is the scene of both career wins (1m-1m2f). However, he hasn't fared all that well so far in 2019, and is difficult to consider as a realistic threat from out of the handicap proper.
Forecasts
Zihaam (3/1), Glacier Fox (7/2), False Id (9/2), Bigbadboy (11/2), Metronomic (10/1), Jennies Gem (12/1), Dutch Artist (12/1), Inflexiball (14/1), John Caesar (25/1), Wedding Breakfast (33/1)
Division 1 of a Class 6 1m2f handicap which is certain to make precious little appeal to the majority of punters with a plethora of high class action taking place elsewhere across the week (Royal Ascot). However, there'll be a winner and that could feasibly be the well handicapped METRONOMIC who took a step back in the right direction behind a subsequent winner (Jackhammer) at Carlisle. Of the remainder, and in the following order, the course winners Zihaam, Glacier Fox and Bigbadboy also merit some form of inspection.
- Metronomic
- Zihaam
- Glacier Fox
