Won twice over fences as a novice but handicap form has been mixed since. Now on a career lowest mark after poor displays at the Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals and a number of modest efforts since. Stiff test on these terms.

Last win over fences came from a 3lb lower mark but form since has been moderate at best. Failed to complete his last two starts and needs to have been considerably freshened up by his break since December if he 's going to figure at all here.

Best form has been at or around this sort of trip and notable that he's won over these fences before. Still has plenty of scope to improve over fences and looks a likely type to progress. One to seriously consider.

Reasonable effort back over fences at Punchestown last month but his consistency has been questionable; on a a career highest mark and more needed in a competitive heat like this.

Won this race last year (Conrad Hastings held on that occasion) and is respected from just a 2lb higher mark. Returned to form last time out and dangerous to underestimate in his bid for back-to-back wins.

Won at Listowel at the start of this month and merits a betting check from just a 5lb higher mark. Needs to at least match his best to go in again on these terms though.

Well backed when winning a novice chase at Down Royal in January but completion rate has been poor since; yard highly respected but looks to have a better chance of landing this with lightly raced chaser Barra on this occasion.

Form figures read well but the mare was held from this mark at Killarney last month and she has plenty to find on a literal reading of that form; the betting will be useful in determining the pecking order of the table's trio of intended runners.

Third behind Draycott Place at Ballinrobe last month but is 6lb better off at the weights; which still leaves the gelding with a bit to find. Yard is going well but this looks a tough ask.

Returned from a long absence with a solid enough run at Listowel earlier this month. On a handy mark but very possible his days of improvement are behind him. (6lb below his last winning mark.)

Has won over fences but not since November 2015 and he's rarely looked like being capable of adding to his tally since. Unseated in hunters chase last month and not too difficult to overlook here.

Fit from a spin on the Flat but is 0-6 over fences and was well adrift of the likes of Monatomic when last seen over fences. Plenty to find.

Forecast

Barra (5/1), Art Of Security (6/1), Hash Brown (13/2), Conrad Hastings (7/1), Mrs Lovett (7/1), Punches Cross (7/1), Nearly Nama'd (10/1), Monatomic (11/1), Draycott Place (12/1), Deans Road (12/1), Supreme Vinnie (14/1), Velvet Maker (22/1)

Verdict

Last year's winner Draycott Place is back in good form and is only 2lb higher this time; so is highly respected in his repeat bid. However, the progressive mare BARRA is suited by both trip and ground and gets the nod as the one who is open to the most progress over fences. Punches Cross has form that entitles him to consideration to make the frame and, along with Nearly Nama'd, could be good value for a sporting each-way punt.
