Has edged up the weights after a reasonably solid spell of form since returning to turf in April; 6lb higher than when holding on determinedly to beat Shawaamekh by ¾L at Wetherby (good to soft) in early May.

Age: 6|  Weight: 9-7| J: Jonathan Fisher| T: L Bailey| OR:  62| CD
10/1
C&D winner (good to soft) for Lar Mullaney from a 10lb higher mark last July; has struggled to put his best foot forward since hence the ease in the weights; visor now applied seeking to spark a revival of fortunes; stablemate of Captain Peaky.

Doesn't win all that often and following a couple of fair placed efforts on the AW during April, now looks to be back on another downward spiral; 1-26 on turf; admittedly has raced mainly on the AW in recent years.

Snooker Jimt12
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-12| J: Toby Eley| T: Steph Hollinshead| OR:  53
9/4
12-race maiden; was partnered by Toby Eley when beaten 1¼L by Camille on soft ground at Nottingham (1m) before another placed finish on the AW at Wolverhampton; 1lb lower in a weak race.

Atalanta Queenv15
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-11| J: Aled Beech| T: R Brisland| OR:  52| D
9/1
Game filly who will handle these conditions (is a 6f winner on soft); in the midst of a productive spell of form on the Fibresand at Southwell (1,1,2); same mark as when beaten 3¼L by the Mick Appleby-trained Khaan latest.

Captain Peakyp21
Age: 6|  Weight: 8-7| J: Owen Payton(7)| T: L Bailey| OR:  45
12/1
26-race maiden and stablemate of Lagenda; 25/1 runner up at Chelmsford (1m) in March, and also beaten by a nose on soft ground at Hamilton (1m1f) last June; opposed as he clearly isn't one to set the clock by (inconsistent).

Horse silk
Magic Ship45
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-7| J: C J MacRedmond(3)| T: J R Norton| OR:  45
25/1
Ten-race maiden who has regularly toiled at big prices; there's no obvious reason to envisage a scenario where he passes the jam-stick ahead of the others; easily ignored.

Forecasts

Snooker Jim (9/4), Beatbybeatbybeat (11/4), Zodiakos (7/2), Monsieur Jimmy (5/1), Atalanta Queen (9/1), Lagenda (10/1), Captain Peaky (12/1), Adventureman (20/1), Magic Ship (25/1)

Verdict

An unappealing finale for the majority of punters with a plethora of inexperienced riders charged with the thankless task of getting the best out of their respective mounts under very testing conditions. Snooker Jim is yet to win a race, but his rider Toby Eley knows him well and this won't take a great deal of winning, while Atalanta Queen merits some respect following a productive run of form on the Fibresand at Southwell. However, for very small stakes the token selection is the dropped in trip BEATBYBEATBYBEAT who was far from disgraced when finishing fourth to Motahassen over 1m2f here (heavy) last week.
  1. Beatbybeatbybeat
  2. Snooker Jim
  3. Atalanta Queen
