9/1
Course winner for Dr Richard Newland (2m4f maiden hurdle, June 2016); has struggled in four starts since April (2m4f-3m) falling 16lb in the handicap; plenty to prove.

Mind Your Backp134
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-12| J: T Scudamore| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  99
5/1
Dropped quickly to the rear from mid-race in a 2m maiden hurdle here (good) last month; goes handicapping now in newly applied cheekpieces.

I'm In Charge406
Age: 13|  Weight: 11-9| J: Nick Scholfield| T: J G Cann| OR:  96
16/1
Won twice over fences for this trainer in 2016 but has been very lightly-raced since (just the three starts); finished just under 9L third of five to Brandon Roc at Towcester (3m, soft) in April 2018.

Showem Silverv165
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-5| J: Sean Quinlan| T: J Candlish| OR:  92
10/1
Plainly and simply doesn't appear to be in love with chasing; has dropped 20lb in the handicap since joining Jennie Candlish and consequently has to enter the thinking on return to hurdles sporting a first-time visor; a sporting bet.

Eddyt20
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-5| J: Sean Houlihan(3)| T: Mrs S Gardner| OR:  92| CD
5/2
Not a frequent winner, but does like this track and also turned in a series of consistent efforts in late 2017 (at Exeter); 5lb higher than when beaten 1¾L by Dovils Date in a conditional riders' race over C&D three weeks ago.

Grand Enterprisep,t11
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-4| J: Jamie Hamilton| T: H Hogarth| OR:  91
25/1
Gave an indication that wind surgery might've at least done some good when finishing sixth of 13 to Chocolat Noir at Cartmel (2m6f) 11 days ago, but truly woeful for a sustained spell immediately prior, and that's difficult to ignore.

Boher Lad27
Age: 12|  Weight: 11-3| J: C J Todd(7)| T: A Phillips| OR:  90
7/2
A dour stayer who arrives in excellent form; 4L winner at Stratford in April (3m2f, good) and backed that up with a solid second at Hexham; another 2lb higher but ought to be seriously considered against some rather 'flaky' opponents.
8
Horse silk
Havana River16
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-12| J: Alain Cawley| T: J Farrelly| OR:  85
14/1
Mare who hasn't set the world alight under rules and despite making the frame at Stratford in April (2m6f, good), she was beaten by a whopping 23L; second start in handicap company.
9
Horse silk
Druid's Follyh,t11
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-10| J: James Best| T: C Fryer| OR:  83
16/1
Poor win record (1-21 over hurdles); led, but weakened quickly from the third last when finishing well behind today's rival Eddy over 2m4f (good) here in May; it's possible that he'll be suited by some rain but that's clutching at straws.

Simply Luckyp,t19
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-0| J: Billy Garritty(7)| T: M E Sowersby| OR:  73| CD
5/1
Won twice for Dan Skelton last summer, including over C&D (good); 11lb lower, although does competes from outside of the handicap proper; quite frankly is beginning to look a total lost cause.

Forecasts

Eddy (5/2), Boher Lad (7/2), Simply Lucky (5/1), Mind Your Back (5/1), Trafalgar Rock (9/1), Showem Silver (10/1), Havana River (14/1), I'm In Charge (16/1), Druid's Folly (16/1), Barnay (20/1), Grand Enterprise (25/1)

Verdict

For those seeking a more speculative each-way pick, you could do far worse than throwing a few shekels in the direction of the well handicapped SHOWEM SILVER who could prove to be a totally different proposition now re-introduced to hurdling in an added visor. If you prefer to play it safer, there are a couple of horses in better form of late who should be in the thick of things come the finish, namely the veteran Boher Lad and the course specialist Eddy.
  1. Showem Silver
  2. Eddy
  3. Boher Lad
