Couple of wins in novice handicaps at Newton Abbot (2m5f, good) and Musselburgh (2m6f, good) last year. Tougher going at Ascot in January (shorter trip) outside of novice company. May want a bit further and not on favourable terms here.

Justified favouritism at Newton Abbot (2m5f, good) penultimate start and not a massive shock that 3m at Kempton since didn't suit (pulled up). Can be competitive from this mark under in-form rider.

Bit to find with Lord Bryan on Newton Abbot meeting in April and has since finished last of five at Kempton (2m2f, good). Opposable once more on form.

Easy C&D winner in 2017 and found only one too good on return to this venue in April sporting first-time cheekpieces. Manner of Haydock fold since (led to three out, tailed off) a concern but this track may help.

Two wins last month over hurdles/fences at Warwick were achieved from a 10lb lower mark. Was well beaten over C&D in March but lightly-raced as a chaser and should do better with that win under his belt.

Twice won over fences in 2017 at Southwell and Worcester over this sort of trip, though has struggled in 4-5 outings over these obstacles since. Off since October and tended to need a run in the past.

Forecasts

Blairs Cove (4/5), King Cnut (10/3), Wolfcatcher (5/1), Lord Bryan (7/1), Western Miller (15/2), Cut The Corner (8/1), Murray Mount (66/1)

Verdict

Blairs Cove has improved to win twice last month, once over hurdles and once jumping fences, at Warwick but he was well held here in March and returns rated 9lb higher now. He's progressing but gives weight to another improver in KING CNUT. He won't find much favour with commentators but did things nicely over a shorter trip here recently and should have more to give, ensuring he's fancied to oblige again. Lord Bryan edges former C&D winner Western Miller for the minors, the latter having folded meekly at Haydock last time.
  1. King Cnut
  2. Blairs Cove
  3. Lord Bryan
