Shock 50/1 debut winner of a 1m Newbury novice last October (winners in behind include Apparate and Franz Kafka); has flitted unsuccessfully between 1m2f and 1m4f so far this season; tough mark for handicap debut?

€65,000 yearling; definite improvement on handicap debut at Nottingham (1m2f, good to firm) when beaten a head by Love So Deep - fourth placed Valence a winner since. However, it's debatable as to whether or not he merited a 4lb rise.

12/1
Debut winner (1m, Lingfield); ran to a similar level of form on all three subsequent starts, including when an 8L runner up to Sunset Flash at Newcastle (7f) in November; could progress as a 3yo; stamina to prove.

16/1
€100,000 yearling; six-race maiden who made little impression on his comeback run in a decent enough race at Ripon (1m2f, good) 12 days ago; that said, should appreciate the underfoot conditions; stamina to prove.

15/8
Australia colt; stayed on well inside the final furlong but was unable to reel in the 2L winner Dreamweaver on handicap debut at Goodwood (1m2f, good); high profile trainer has a very healthy 35% strike-rate at Carlisle (15-43); key player.

6/1
65,000gns yearling; five-race maiden; is easing slowly in the weights and is now fitted with a first-time visor; yet to really threaten to recapture the kind of form which saw him beaten 2L by Stormwave at Salisbury (1m) last October.

Forecasts

London Eye (15/8), Buriram (9/4), Landa Beach (4/1), Artistic Language (6/1), Ticklish (12/1), Bullion Boss (16/1)

Verdict

An interesting race where the pair to concentrate upon are Buriram and LONDON EYE. Both took a marked step forward on their respective handicap debuts, and have been adjusted upwards accordingly (4lb and 2lb respectively). The selection has been brought along ever so steadily by Sir Michael Stoute who now looks set to reap the rewards for that patient approach, and in to process of doing so will improve upon his already exceptional 35% strike-rate at Carlisle (London Eye being his only runner over the duration of this two-day fixture).
  1. London Eye
  2. Buriram
  3. Landa Beach
