By Zoffany out of Cheshire Oaks winner Anipa, and represents a yard which can ready a newcomer, although only 1-15 with juveniles so far this season.

14/1
By Dark Angel from the family of 1000 Guineas winner Harayir. Only sibling to race was disappointing, but hard to judge this colt on that evidence, and yard's juveniles running well on the whole.

Horse silk
50/1
Kitten's Joy half-brother to 2 winners abroad from a successful US family. Yard 0-19 with 2-y-o newcomers in the past 12 months, and he's likely to need this experience.

Horse silk
20/1
By Society Rock out of a maiden who stayed 1½m. Yard gets occasional debutant winner, although newcomers tend to be better for the experience.

Horse silk
14/1
Cable Bay half-brother to smart 6f winner Musical Comedy and another couple of useful sorts. Four of yard's last eight 2-y-o debutants have been successful, and this colt is shortlisted as a result.
Stablemate of Big City and looks yard's first-string after a strong-finishing 3¼L second of 11 to Pinatubo in a 6f novice at Wolverhampton. Better than margin of defeat there, and one to bear in mind.
60,000 gns purchase by Sir Prancealot who unseated in the preliminaries, and hung badly left when well behind Platinum Star at Wolverhampton on debut. Easy enough to oppose again.

From the family of Lancashire Oaks & Prix Vermeille winner Bateel. Yard's juvenile newcomers this year have all run well (a win and two places from three runners), so this well-bred colt commands respect.

Horse silk
9/1
Night of Thunder half-sister to 2-y-o 6f winner Oriental Song. First juvenile runner of the year for her yard, and newcomers invariably better for initial experience.

Horse silk
80/1
By Cappella Sansevero out of an unraced mare. Not the most appealing pedigree on show, and outside draw is generally a negative with newcomers.

Horse silk
100/1
Harbour Watch filly purchased for £5,200 as a yearling in October. Showed very little after a slow start on Windsor debut, and best watched again.

Horse silk
100/1
Roderic O'Connor half-sister to 2-y-o 5f-7f winner Shining Armor. Stablemate of Port Noir, and chances are she will struggle here having fetched just £4,000 as a yearling.

Forecasts

Platinum Star (5/6), Big City (11/2), Sky Commander (6/1), Asfurasagira (9/1), Otago (14/1), Haafel (14/1), Mystery Power (14/1), Javea Magic (20/1), Return To Senders (50/1), Handsome Yank (50/1), Capp It All (80/1), Zim Baby (100/1), Port Noir (100/1)

Verdict

Platinum Star is the one to beat on form having made an encouraging start at Wolverhampton, but a chance is taken on OTAGO, who represents a yard with a very good recent record with juvenile newcomers, and who is half-brother to a precocious two-year-old in Musical Comedy. Sky Commander is another newcomer who stands out on paper, and completes the shortlist.
  1. Otago
  2. Platinum Star
  3. Sky Commander
