Winner by a neck in a 3m handicap hurdle at Ludlow (good-to-soft) in January. Disappointed on two most recent starts however and races off a mark 2lb higher than for that victory.
Course winner was beaten 33L when finishing third in a 3m handicap chase at Kempton (good) last time out. Previously last of three in a chase at Fakenham but worth a check in the market off his much lower hurdles mark.
Improved on return from a break when finishing 4L second in a 3m handicap hurdle at Southwell (good) last month. Interesting racing off the same mark with blinkers (first time) replacing the visor worn of late.
Winning for the second time over hurdles when successful at Warwick (3m1f, good) earlier this month. Raised 6lb for that victory and is one for the shortlist in this event.
Out of form in recent starts but has won twice over hurdles in the past most recently off this mark in this contest three years ago.
Course winner failed to finish on two most recent starts including when pulled up at Warwick (3m2f, good) last month. Blinkers tried for the first time.
Decent sixth in a handicap hurdle over 2m7f at Market Rasen (good) in March on return from a break. pulled up subsequently however and others make more appeal.
Returned from wind surgery with an 8½L fourth in a handicap hurdle over an extended 3m2f at Newton Abbot (good) a month ago. Worth a check in the market off a 1lb lower mark.
Decent third over an extended 2m5f at Wincanton (good-to-firm) earlier this month. Has won off higher marks in the past but stamina to prove over this distance racing from out of the handicap.
Forecasts
Flying Verse (11/4), His Dream (9/2), Telson Barley (9/2), Exitas (7/1), Pahaska (7/1), Nemean Lion (9/1), Tea Time Fred (11/1), Muthabir (16/1), Stolberg (40/1)
TELSON BARLEY was a winner last time out and with further improvement likely he can follow-up that victory with a success in this staying handicap hurdle. The selection looks capable of getting teh better of his rivals with Flying Verse who wears blinkers for the first time capable of claiming second ahead of Exitas who is making a return to hurdles.
- Telson Barley
