Form is rather a mixed bag and despite the fact that she won at Warwick in November (in a novice) her handicap form hasn't quite matched that level. Set a couple of stiff tasks of late but has shown some quirks and may not be straightforward.
Bumper/hurdles winner a few years ago but temperament issues look to have got hold of her since she returned to racing after 15 months off. Last two runs have particularly highlighted those wayward traits; not one to rely on.
Couple of runs for this yard have shown some vague promise but she's really failed to build on either of those starts. Failed to make any impression last time (fell early on; already not travelling); cheekpieces now removed.
First-time blinkers appeared to bring about an improved performance last time and she's starting to look well treated off this mark. Would have a chance if she's able to build on that run although her past record does leave some doubts.
Handicap newcomer who has shown that she has ability on more than one occasion especially last time at Kempton when unseating two out. May not have beaten the winner there but now in handicaps with a first-time hood fitted makes her of interest.
Should be competitive at this level having won at Fontwell in a lower grade in December; performed with credit in better company since. Handicapper may just have her measure now (10lb above last winning mark); more consistent than most of these.
Improved on her previous performances when scoring at Stratford in March (handicap debut); stepped up on that display when following up at Plumpton. Up a further 5lb from that win but looks one to keep onside in events like this.
First-time blinkers and a longer trip proved to be the catalysts for her first win under Rules at Plumpton last time (less-exposed than most in that field). Given a 5lb rise for that win; must be a player if the headgear works again.
Benefitted from a positive ride when winning at Hereford in October (2m4f); subsequently looked as though she could do with even a stiffer test of stamina. Gets that here although there are a few who look better treated and less exposed.
A step up to this trip clearly suited this one on her second handicap start finding plenty to win close home at Worcester last August. Ran a similar race when returning to action at Southwell after six months off; should get involved.
Forecasts
Midnight Aurora (11/4), Our Rockstar (7/2), Big Penny (5/1), Stream Lady (6/1), Maebh (7/1), No No Juliet (10/1), Slaine (11/1), Whispering Affair (20/1), Versifier (25/1), Lady Markby (25/1)
There are quite a few that are expected to show up well over the summer jumping campaign led by Midnight Aurora whose Southwell effort last time should set her up for a productive campaign, she has to be respected for the Skelton yard that do well here. Our Rockstar has to improve again but a hat-trick bid isn’t ruled out even off this mark while Stream Lady enters the equation if the headgear works as well again. SLAINE shaped as though she was going to push the winner close last time at Kempton before her mishap and she’s given a chance to make amends making her handicap debut off a very acceptable mark.
- Slaine
- Our Rockstar
- Midnight Aurora
