10/1
Remains a maiden on turf (0-14) with a trio of recent low-key C&D efforts to his name, but he's sliding in the weights as a result, and shaped better than the bare result last time, doing his best work late.

Disappointing in four starts since winning by a head over 6f at Wolverhampton last July, and while his return may have been needed, he's hard to back with confidence.

Age: 4|  Weight: 9-6| J: Rachel Richardson| T: E J Alston| OR:  54| D

Was building on earlier promise when scoring at Catterick in September. Needed the run on return at Thirsk, and shaped well when fourth on Fibresand debut 12 days ago. Likely to go well in this modest company.

Just one win to his name, but went very close off 4lb higher over C&D last August, and back in form when a creditable third of 13 to Bahlwan here last time. One to keep on side at this level.

Won a 6f Newcastle handicap in November and has run with promise on both starts on turf this year, running on both times. Respected, but a sharp 5f is not ideal, and he may have to wait for another day.

Age: 6|  Weight: 9-5| J: Harrison Shaw(5)| T: D Thompson| OR:  53

Suited by a strong gallop when winning over 6f at Redcar in August, and back to that form when 1½L second to Ginger Jam at Thirsk on Saturday. In form, and handicapped to go close, although drop in trip not ideal.

Lightly raced, and justified market confidence when beating Angel Eyes and Mt Shelby. Up 6lb, but that looks solid form for the grade, and he holds leading claims.

Difficult to win with nowadays but is undeniably well handicapped, and ran his best race in a while when third of 10 to Star Cracker at Newcastle last time. Not certain to build on that, but capable if in the same mood.

Foxy Boy11
Age: 5|  Weight: 8-13| J: D Allan| T: Rebecca Bastiman| OR:  47| D

Has been disappointing since scoring at Wolverhampton (5f) in January. Feasibly handicapped but still likely to find others stronger, unless stepping up markedly on recent efforts.

Corton Lass11
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-12| J: Sean Davis(5)| T: K Dalgleish| OR:  45

Best recent effort when fifth of 13 to Bahlwan over C&D last time, but carried head awkwardly there, and isn't one for maximum faith.

Five-time sprint winner, but her form took a nosedive last year, and she fared no better after a breathing operation when down the field at Catterick in October.

Thornaby Princessv111
Age: 8|  Weight: 8-12| J: Jason Hart| T: J Ward| OR:  45| CD

Has lost her last 30 starts, although won twice over C&D in 2016, and not long with her current yard, so not a forlorn hope.

Appears to be very limited on the evidence to date, and hard to see her taking a hand here.

Forecasts

Bahlwan (15/8), Mr Shelby (13/2), Someone Exciting (13/2), Boudica Bay (10/1), Lord Of The Glen (10/1), Roaring Rory (11/1), Thornaby Princess (14/1), Groundworker (18/1), Foxy Boy (18/1), Corton Lass (20/1), Arnoul Of Metz (25/1), Lady Joanna Vassa (50/1), Princess Apollo (100/1)

Verdict

MR SHELBY was only third behind Bahlwan here last time, but was stuck very wide with the winner prominent on the rail, and with a turnaround at the weights and a more neutral draw, he could be value to turn the tables. Someone Exciting ran a cracker at Thirsk on Saturday, and is on the cusp of another win, so merits respect, for all the drop to five furlongs is less than ideal
  1. Mr Shelby
  2. Bahlwan
  3. Someone Exciting
