Formerly with Alan King; fair to say that his best form came in bumpers, but also that he's heading back in the right direction over hurdles more latterly (placed over 3m at Taunton last month); cheekpieces applied on debut for Richard Phillips.
Never better than mid-division on his last couple of starts; best effort came when a well beaten third to Esprit Du Large at Uttoxeter (2m, soft) in December; tongue-tie now applied.
Inconsistent 12-race maiden who has his own ideas about the game; placed on debut for this trainer at Huntingdon (2m, good to soft) in February; unseated his rider at the first on his most recent start (Southwell).
Driven out when winning a 2m mares' maiden at Huntingdon (2m, good) last month; not at all disgraced (runner up) on handicap debut back at that track; no issues with these conditions; one to consider.
Six-race hurdles maiden; eased fractionally in the weights since introduced to handicapping (2m3f-2m5f+); has left the care of Henry Daly since competing at Southwell 34-days ago.
Has found his level in low-grade handicaps; looked to be in full control when unseating his rider at the final flight at Fontwell (2m6f, good); unfortunate to be given a subsequent 3lb rise; cheekpieces now applied.
Well beaten on all three starts over hurdles (at triple figure odds); returns to action for her handicap debut off a 167-day break; needs to take a significant step forward in order to be positively involved.
Well beaten in first time cheekpieces (blinkers now tried) over fences at Exeter (good to soft) last month; 2lb higher than when beaten ½L by Baldadash on his most recent hurdles start over C&D (good) in April 2017.
A versatile four-time winner on the Flat (won over distances between 6f and 2m); now 0-10 over hurdles; in contention when hampered at the final flight by the unseat of today's rival Hawkerland at Fontwell latest (finished second).
Five-race hurdles maiden; no improvement for the switch to handicapping; cheekpieces now accompany the tongue-tie which was worn for the first time at Plumpton (2m4f+); look elsewhere.
Forecasts
Hawkerland (7/2), From The Heart (5/1), Multigifted (11/2), Saumur (6/1), Lord Marmaduke (13/2), Panic And Run (15/2), Kootenay River (9/1), Kilinakin (10/1), Miss Malarky (40/1), Spendable (66/1)
Far from the strongest of races, so the connections of HAWKERLAND will no doubt be at least hopeful that their first-time cheek-pieced 6yo gelding can atone for an unfortunate unseat at Fontwell. Others to consider include the top-weight Kootenay River who makes his first appearance for Richard Phillips, the four-time Flat winner Multigifted, and perhaps the most progressive of all (for the grade) the Huntingdon mares' maiden scorer Saumur.
- Hawkerland
- Saumur
- Kootenay River
