Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful hurdler/high-class chaser Saint Calvados. Strong in the market on debut he failed to live up to his promising pedigree looking to need the experience; returns from a wind op in a first-time hood.
Lacked the experience to beat a couple with more of that commodity at Fontwell on his debut before he was highly tried in a Listed bumper at Newbury last time. In good hands and may well be capable of progress back in calmer waters.

Brother to smart hurdler/useful chaser Very Wood (winner at up to 3m); didn't really get the opportunity to show his ability on debut at Exeter on soft ground last December. Pulled too hard to do himself justice; better to come down the line.

6/1
Newcomer by Multiplex; half-brother to useful hurdler Royal Bonsai. Trainer 1-14 with his debut bumper runners in his career and 2-30 overall in this sphere. Not one of the more obvious types in this unless the market speaks for him.

Cost €21,000 last year; has an interesting pedigree being a half-brother to a 1m Group 1 winner (Rosanara) out of a dam who was a Listed winner on the Flat. Tongue-tie on for debut; yard to 7-44 since 2014 with bumper newcomers.

25/1
First run for this yard having previously been with Sarah-Jayne Davies when a well beaten last of five at Doncaster on his debut. Raced far too freely and hard to fancy on what he shown so far but events may be different for the change of yard.

9/2
Half-brother to five winners from a family that the yard knows well although they are hardly prolific in this sphere. 2-18 with bumper newcomers since 2014 this one would have to be very positive in the market to arouse interest.

A non-runner yesterday (Huntingdon) due to the ground it looks as though the softer surface will be ideal here for this one who outran his 25-1 odds when second on his Southwell debut. Will certainly know more now; stable jockey takes over the ride.

Forecasts

Corrany (5/2), Konigin Ara (10/3), Xcitations (9/2), Bon Calvados (11/2), Bonsai Bay (6/1), Easy Wood (8/1), Rory And Me (16/1), Soldier Of War (25/1)

Verdict

A few of the stables represented here have good bumper records with Dan Skelton being one of them and it’s KONIGIN ARA who finished second on his debut when looking rather inexperienced and coming from off the pace in a slowly-run affair at Southwell that would be the main contender. Nicky Henderson is never a trainer to ignore in this sphere and his Corrany will appreciate the drop in grade having run in Listed class last time. Bon Calvados should make the grade and a wind op and hood are now employed after he disappointed on his debut. Perhaps the two most fascinating contenders are Soldier of War (cost $100,000) as a yearling and Rory And Me whose pedigree looks very interesting.
  1. Konigin Ara
  2. Rory And Me
  3. Bon Calvados
