Can make very hard work of his races despite being capable on his day proving that with three wins last season over hurdles/fences. Often runs his best races from the front but returns from a significant absence with questions to answer.

Scored in a C&D handicap last summer off the same mark as he resides on today but he's not the most straightforward and decent efforts since then have been rare. Underlined his inconsistency last time; hopes pinned on a return to this course.

Hardly looks thrown in at the weights and only eased 2lb for his stable/GB debut last time having previously been with Gordon Elliott. Would need to have shown more to be of interest here; best watched unless there are any positive market vibes.

Chasing career looks to have been abandoned for a while although a return to hurdling (has useful novice form) in a Cheltenham handicap didn't go to plan. Still looked to have problems despite the wind op he had previously undergone (pulled up).

Returned to action after just over three years away from the track last time looking as ring-rusty as you would expect (unseated rider at last). Dual 2m4f novice hurdle scorer back in 2015; had ability with this start to reveal more about his future.

Tough staying mare who is fairly useful on her day and only found a well-treated/thriving sort too good last time at Hexham over 2m4f. Gets another opportunity to showcase her staying ability here at a trip that will really suit her; leading player.

Winner of her first three hurdles races (all at 2m) she looked to be edging back towards that level off a hiatus when fourth at Cheltenham (2m4f). Needs to build on that run (record a little patchy) but off the same mark and makes some appeal here.

Runner-up efforts in three of his last four races over hurdles he did manage to win a small field affair at Doncaster in March (2m4f) off a 7lb lower mark. Fine effort last time at Cheltenham over 3m; sure to go well again off a 2lb higher mark.

Forecasts

Gowiththeflow (7/2), Talent To Amuse (4/1), Broughtons Admiral (9/2), Wynford (5/1), Tapaculo (5/1), Becky The Thatcher (11/2), Souriyan (16/1), Satoshi (25/1)

Verdict

For one who stays well on the Flat it’s surprising that BECKY THE THATCHER hasn’t been given more opportunities over this sort of trip when she’s gone hurdling. She was flattered to get so near a well-treated rival last time but that run was very creditable all the same and gives her a leading chance here. Broughtons Admiral looks to be the main danger having turned in a fine effort at Cheltenham last time having been very consistent of late. Tapaculo will be worth watching with a view to seeing how much ability remains now that he’s had an outing after three years off with Talent To Amuse despite a rather hit-and-miss record of late another to take into consideration.
  1. Becky The Thatcher
  2. Broughtons Admiral
  3. Talent To Amuse
