Eased in the handicap from his first two starts in this sphere but is likely to need further surgery to his mark before he can be considered. Failed to prove his stamina over 4f further last time so a return to 2m may help; others appeal more.

Made a limited/minor step forward on his handicap debut at Clonmel when with his former yard off a 9lb lower mark. Failed to repeat that effort last time back at the same venue but over 3f further; now with a new yard, market watch advised.

Fairly useful on the Flat but has failed to get anywhere near that form over hurdles but a handicap debut in first-time cheekpieces did give some hope. Might not have been seen to best effect in that contest; off the same mark, remains of interest.

Form in bumpers and over hurdles can't be rated any better than poor and a switch to handicaps hasn't seen any progress although he was handed a stiff mark. Blinkers now reached for (first-time) with the handicapper starting to relent.

0-18 in the jumping sphere (has won once on the Flat) he returns for a new yard on the back of a significant absence. Hard to glean much that would point towards a positive effort from the formbook but positive market vibes should be noted.

Mark couldn't be get much lower than the one that he was second off at Carlisle in March (well supported at big prices) in a weak heat. Failed to back that performance up over the same C&D; runs from 2lb out of the weights.

There was some mild promise in his bumper efforts but that has been transferred to his hurdling performances with his record in this sphere now 0-8. Hard to muster much enthusiasm for his chance on his body of work over timber.

Forecasts

Bantiss Jack (2/1), Ourmullion (7/2), Safe Home (9/2), Orkan (5/1), Lake Washington (6/1), Naasik (7/1), Sultans Hero (14/1), Cyrano Star (16/1)

Verdict

The market could be quite interesting here as there are one or two who may have been hiding their lights under a bushel. That comment would bring in the likes of Bantiss Jack on his debut for the Olly Murphy having shown a glimmer of promise on his handicap debut when trained in Ireland and Safe Home another with a new yard that may just find the key to him. OURMULLION wasn’t seen to best effect at Taunton last time though have travelled into the race well and although his finishing effort was a little weak he has the ability to show more this time around. Cyrano Star would have to be given a squeak on his Carlisle second while Orkan is likely to appreciate this 2m despite a stiff mark.
  1. Ourmullion
  2. Bantiss Jack
  3. Safe Home
