Every chance here if you go on his second over C&D last October in better grade than this, especially as he's 4lb lower here. Has come back off a break to win before, which he's doing here, and must hold a chance in an open race.
Three starts here have seen him in the frame twice, so clearly handles the surface, and probably has improvement to come, but the worry is the drop back to 6f, as he shapes like he does need further.
Hard to win with but equally pretty consistent and tends to run his race more often than not (three wins and seven places in 19 starts here). Back to form when a close second at the weekend and every chance of the places again here, at worst.
Winner of a maiden auction at Thirsk around this time last year, not gone on from that but reappearance effort at Thirsk wasn't terrible, and cheekpieces added tonight might help the situation too. Risky, but not discounted.
Model of consistency since the turn of the year, has won over C&D and this habitual front runner has a squeak of leading these from start to finish from a decent draw. Might be susceptible late on, but has a punchers chance of making all.
One win in 22 starts shows you what the issue is, very hard to catch right and he seemed to idle away a winning chance at Chelmsford last time. Drop back to 6f may help, and new yard may yet find the key to him.
C&D winner here in January and clearly effective under these conditions, but wins these days tend to come in the bottom grade and he might find this a bit too tough. Will appreciate a good pace though, so places are up for grabs late on.
Going nowhere quickly and no realistic chance from so far out of the handicap here. Probably the only one of the eight that can't win on the available evidence.
Forecasts
Gunmaker (3/1), Gowanbuster (10/3), Lucky Lodge (4/1), Avenue Of Stars (6/1), Scots Sonnet (7/1), I Know How (15/2), Russian Realm (9/1), Camanche Grey (200/1)
With the exception of Camanche Grey, it's possible to construct a case for just about everything here. GOWANBUSTER just about gets the vote to make all the running, and he deserves another win for his consistency this year. Lucky Lodge often hits the frame and may do so again, with Avenue Of Stars and I Know How the pair likely to fight it out for the bronze medal.
