Recorded a quick-fire hat-trick in autumn of 2017, including pair of Ripon wins over this trip. 0-4 last year but all runs in fiercely competitive big-field handicaps. Sights lowered on first start for 323 days.
Just 2-29 strike rate on turf tells a tale, latest success at Ripon (1m2f, good) last summer coming from 6lb lower mark. Often needs a run, so perhaps best watched this time.
Record is now 4-13 on turf after success at Pontefract (1m, good to firm) 11 days ago (took advantage of career-low handicap mark). 5lb higher but likely to be involved again given manner of that success.
C&D winner in June last year (rated 67) and has managed two more wins in eight outings since; including surprise 25-1 score on seasonal bow at Leicester (1m, good) 15 days ago. Up in class and 4lb higher but good chance he's competitive again.
Won over a mile here in September and made it 2-4 when scoring again at Pontefract following month. Not in same form either start since coming back from a break, though not discounted if bouncing back to form.
Decent strike rate on turf reads 8-31 with eight more placed efforts. Three-time course winner (7f/1m), including reappearance success here last May; the beginning of a progressive season that yielded four wins and a 24lb higher mark than he began.
Forecasts
Mulligatawny (2/1), Mont Kinabalu (3/1), Ventura Gold (4/1), Jacob Black (5/1), Brilliant Vanguard (9/1), Zeshov (12/1)
Mont Kinabalu should go well again having taken advantage of his lower perch in the ratings to score at Pontefract recently while stablemate Brilliant Vanguard is worth noting in the betting on reappearance as his sights are lowered significantly after a tough schedule in 2018. Recent Leicester winner Ventura Gold has form around here but after a hugely progressive campaign last time JACOB BLACK to go well. He won first time out here last season and, while rated 24 higher now, has already proved he can compete from this mark.
- Jacob Black
- Brilliant Vanguard
- Mont Kinabalu
