Second to Present Man in the Badger Ales in November shows he capable on his day and since then, has had legitimate excuses for his last two below par runs. Conditions here fine but yard a bit out of form, which is a worry.
Well into the veteran stage now, wears his heart on his sleeve with some bold front-running displays but not really showing much spark in his last few outings and not hard to think he'll set this up for something else.
Conditions fine and now back on the same mark as when a neck second to Kilfilum Cross at Ludlow in February, a solid effort. Still looked in form when fourth at Ascot last time and should be on the premises if running his race today.
Has some good form to his name if you go back to last year, but not really fired this time around and although his third at Exeter last time was a step back in the right direction, he still needs more. Well handicapped if he does bounce back.
Winner of two of his last three starts, both at Warwick (by small margins) and these conditions seem to suit him best. Up another 5lb but seems to still be improving and on that, has to be of interest here.
Good winner over 20f here in February and has kept his form well since, but on the other hand now seems that the handicapper has him where he wants him. Needs this new trip to eke out a bit more.
Old boy tends to run his race more often than not, and once again has his conditions, but hasn't won a race since 2016 and isn't getting much help from the handicapper either. Others make more appeal for win purposes.
Stays well and likes good ground, so has that going for him, but hard to win races with and this grade asks a new question of him too. Should run his race and the places are up for grabs, but needs more if he's to force his head in front.
Forecasts
The Paddy Pie (7/2), Quarenta (9/2), Salmanazar (9/2), Duel At Dawn (5/1), Mahlermade (11/2), Sumkindofking (7/1), Uhlan Bute (12/1), Loose Chips (25/1)
A few of these have something to prove. Quarenta might be the one to beat if he can reproduce his Warwick form and there may still be a bit more to come from him. Uhlan Bute looks more likely to run his race than a few and should be on the premises once more, but maybe now is the time to chance DUEL AT DAWN, very well handicapped if he can find his form of last year and maybe his latest third was just a sign he may be on the way back. Mahlermade hits the frame with regularity and may do so again.
- Duel At Dawn
- Quarenta
- Uhlan Bute
