Veteran; beaten a neck by Mighty Missile in this race in 2017 (good to firm) and has competed over obstacles just once since (second); kept reasonable form on the Flat (including on the AW) in late 2018.

Veteran; without a win since November 2017 when comfortably beating Lord Ben by 4½L (2m Huntingdon, good); has mixed hurdling with chasing latterly; off the track since October 2018 when finishing fourth at Fakenham (2m).

Anything but a frequent winner (2-36), although in all fairness he was ultra-consistent in defeat in late 2018; same mark as when beaten 1¼L by Gonnabegood at Exeter (2m7f, heavy) in December; faster ground fine; shorter trip?

Bought for €15,000 in November 2018, but well beaten on both starts for Suzy Smith (slipping 11lb in the weights as a result); her best form in France was with plenty of cut underfoot.

Seven-race maiden; hasn't shown much in the way of promise in three previous Wincanton starts, yet offered plenty more at Taunton (twice runner-up) in November 2018; conditions fine; this extra yardage might help offset his apparent lack of pace.

Has generally struggled since winning back-to-back races at Plumpton (3m1f) and Fontwell (3m2f) during the spring of 2018; shaped better with a change of tactics at Chepstow 25-days ago; could lead and try to make his proven stamina count.

All out winner of a 3m maiden PTP at Monksgrange (soft/heavy) in April 2018; bought for £17,000 the following month; 0-5 under rules and very difficult to imagine that the forecast drying ground will suit.

Verdict

Not exactly prime betting material, albeit this Military Riders' handicap hurdle will be keenly contested. The veteran Cousin Khee finished second in this race in 2017, but plenty of time has passed since with his well-being taken on trust (off since December). Southfield Torr represents the Paul Nicholls/Jody Sole partnership. However, this 6yo has appeared to be rather one-paced in his races and more worryingly is yet to threaten to deliver the goods at this particular track. Therefore, a more speculative shout is for the Seamus Mullins-trained MOGESTIC. He posted an improved effort with a change of tactics latest (led), and was a dual winner in the spring of 2018.
  1. Mogestic
  2. Tea Time Fred
  3. Southfield Torr
