Maintained his unbeaten record after a three month break with and AW win at Chelmsford (1m2f) in January having made a winning debut over the same trip. Carries a double penalty; looks as though there is more to come, steps up to 1m4f now.

The other winner in the field (yard have made a good start to season); caused a shock winning on debut last year at 50-1 over 1m (overcame inexperience). Entitled to move forward stepped up by 4f on just his second start; stayed on strongly over 1m.
Trainer has a modest strike-rate (6%) with three-year-old newcomers although this half-brother to six winners makes some appeal on pedigree. Cost 130,000 guineas as a yearling; may well be worth keeping an eye on for a market move.

Four outings at up to 1m for former yard (Ralph Beckett) as a juvenile producing a rather mixed bag of performances (not without promise on occasions). Now gelded and with a new yard he remains of some interest stepped up to 1m4f for the first time.

Once-raced sort who has a decent pedigree (half-brother to three winners) and despite being bred for longer trips showed up well on his debut (Nottingham, 1m, soft). Held back by inexperience there this will tell us far more up at a suitable trip.

Second foal (cost 5,000 guineas as a yearling); half-brother to Hungarian 1m3f/2m winner Oxford Thespian; dam 1m2f/1m4f winner. Given his background unlikely to trouble the best of these on his racecourse debut.

Forecasts

Technician (11/8), Themaxwecan (9/4), Landa Beach (3/1), Fox Fearless (8/1), Future Investment (10/1), Aleatoric (33/1), Arthur Pendragon (40/1), Tidal Point (150/1)

Verdict

A double penalty obviously gives THEMAXWECAN the hardest task he’s faced so far but his form so far has a solid look to it and he’s very much the type the stable excel with as he steps up in trip. Landa Beach made the perfect start to his career and with the Balding team in good form (9-29 last 14 days) he’s an obvious threat tackling a new trip but with improvement left in him. Technician and Fox Fearless are two others that have made an impression so far although the former is starting to look exposed, maybe a change of yard will eke out some progress. The pick of the newcomers looks to be Future Investment; judged on his pedigree he should relish this trip.
  1. Themaxwecan
  2. Landa Beach
  3. Future Investment
