Regular contender at this sort of level last winning a three-runner affair of this ilk at Fakenham on New Year's Day. Nowhere near that form in selling grade since this C&D winner needs t bounce back in first-time blinkers.

Appreciated the return to selling grade at Taunton last month having performed abysmally in a handicap the time before. Never travels that fluently (can run in snatches) and may be shade vulnerable at the weights.
3

Ardera Crossp,t10
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-7| J: Bridget Andrews| T: D Skelton| OR:  116
7/2
Looked a typical handicap project for this yard on the back of wind surgery but he's not quite managed to get his head in front as yet going backwards rather than forwards in form terms; has possibilities dropped to this level.

Carrigmoorna Mattp,t14
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-7| J: T Scudamore| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  116
4/1
Has run with credit in handicap hurdles since joining this stable without necessarily showing any immediate progress (handicapper looks in control). Failed to stay longer trips the last twice; likely player in this grade back in trip.

Less testing conditions allowed him to beat better treated rivals in a Leicester seller back at the start of the year proving himself over 2m4f. Well beaten both starts since (latest in race won by Vancouver); suffered a breathing problem last time.

Shadow's Boyp30
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-7| J: Robert Williams(3)| T: B J Llewellyn| OR:  110
28/1
Inconsistent sort who produced his only worthwhile piece of form when runner-up in a Leicester seller in December. Ran poorly last time out behind Vancouver; not one to trust to give his running; tough task at the weights.

American Tomh15
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-1| J: David England| T: O Murphy| OR:  129| BF
5/4
Unlikely to match the form he showed when with Willie Mullins (rated 142 for his handicap chase debut). Failed to justify favouritism on his stable/GB debut (Fakenham seller); outbattled by his main market rival; sure to go close again.

Kilcaragh Boyt26
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-1| J: Philip Armson(7)| T: R J Armson| OR:  66
150/1
Ran one of his better races last time in a Southwell selling handicap but faces a very stiff task on these terms. Would be much better off in a handicap of this type and not one to be interested in.

Horse silk
150/1
Just four Rules runs to her name separated by long absences and offered very little encouragement when last seen; pulled a long way out. Hard to fashion any sort of case for her here even dropped in grade.

Forecasts

American Tom (5/4), Ardera Cross (7/2), Carrigmoorna Matt (4/1), Vancouver (5/1), Regulation (14/1), Shadow's Boy (28/1), Cliffside Park (33/1), Kilcaragh Boy (150/1), Busy Lilly (150/1)

Verdict

There’s no doubt that American Tom is the best off at the weights here but the way he capitulated in a similar race last time leaves doubts about his attitude and he’s not one to trust at a short price. Both Cliffside Park and last time out winner in this grade Vancouver look rather vulnerable and it’s two class droppers in ARDERA CROSS and Carrigmoorna Matt who make the most appeal in this low grade contest. Both have shown ability in open handicaps and the former is likely to be well tuned up for this with his trainer chasing the record of 200 winners this jumping season.
  1. Ardera Cross
  2. American Tom
  3. Carrigmoorna Matt
