Won a maiden hurdle for Nicky Henderson, but was pulled up at Warwick earlier this month on his return from an absence of 931-days and has plenty still to prove as a result.

Won a novice hurdle here in 2016 and added a chase at Doncaster the following season. Inconsistent and below that level ever since. Ran well at Huntingdon (3m1f) last time, but still more needed to win again from this mark.

Made all to record her first win since 2016 at Sedgefield (3m3f) last time. Up 4lb for that 6L success, and still well treated on old form, so entitled to plenty of respect in her follow-up bid.

Placed in both Irish points, but has not shown much in three starts over hurdles. Initial mark looks stiff based purely on the evidence. Visor now fitted for handicap debut, so check the market for clues.

Made all to win at Catterick (3m1f, good to soft) on his penultimate start, when 6lb lower. Well held back there under a penalty last time (may have been too soon). Returns from a break, and has won when fresh, so can't rule him out.

Won a Ballinrobe maiden hurdle (2m, yld/soft) in 2017 for Joseph O'Brien. 0-7 with this trainer since then, and not easy to make a strong case for him.

Lightly-raced gelding. Best effort two starts ago over 2m5f at Ludlow (good to soft). Enters handicaps on a stiff mark strictly on what he has achieved, but 10lb claimed and a possible improver. Market check.

Moorlands Mist115
Age: 12|  Weight: 11-9| J: Nathan Moscrop(5)| T: Sara Ender| OR:  107| D

Won twice from the front on good ground in the autumn, first at Hexam (2m7½f) and then at Sedgefield (3m3f). Pulled up in better company when last seen. Goes well fresh and could be thereabouts again.

Sole success came in a Fakenham maiden hurdle (2m, soft) in 2015. Has had two lengthy absences since. Showed that some ability remains, when 6½L fourth here over C&D last time, and not written off from 1lb lower.

Not devoid of ability in his two completed starts. Looked to have been given a stiff mark when pulled up here on handicap debut last month. 5lb drop will help, as could headgear and step up in trip. Interesting if supported.

Won a 3m novice hurdle at Southwell two seasons ago, when with Ben Pauling. Largely very disappointing since then. Well held at Catterick last time. Drops a useful 7lb, but need to see more before getting involved.

Inconsistent, but a slide in the weights saw him get very competitive at Wetherby last time (2m3½f, good), when finishing strongly to go close. Since had wind surgery, and positive that same pilot booked. Interesting.

Schapp14
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-13| J: Fergus Gregory(5)| T: C Fryer| OR:  97

Been running reasonably well of late, and a 3lb drop plus this return to a longer trip could see her battle for minor honours, but not easy to see her winning just yet from this mark.

Forecasts

Querry Horse (7/2), Acertain Circus (9/2), Sigurd (11/2), Nemean Lion (6/1), Very Extravagant (6/1), Bucaneros (12/1), Family Man (14/1), Rizzardo (16/1), Schap (16/1), Moorlands Mist (28/1), Valgor Du Ronceray (40/1), Nobuttaboy (66/1), Act Alone (125/1)

Verdict

A tough race to fathom, with a number of imponderables. Nigel Twiston-Davies saddles two who may now be capable of improvement as they enter handicaps, and both need a market check, along with Bucaneros, with the champion on board for another good yard. Moorlands Mist looks capable of having a say, while Querry Horse and Nemean Lion can both go well. Sigurd and Acertain Circus are others of note, but the suggestion is to stick with VERY EXTRAVAGANT, who is more consistent than most here and can followu-up her Sedgefield win from 4lb higher.
  1. Very Extravagant
  2. Sigurd
  3. Nemean Lion
