Soft ground winner at Doncaster (3m) last year, when 3lb lower. Held in higher grades since then, but latest 17L third at Kelso was a step back in the right direction. Should be more competitive after a 3lb drop.

Won back-to-back hurdles last spring over similar trips to this. Below that level in both chases so far. Took positive step when back over hurdles last time, but has it to prove again now back chasing and in new headgear.

Sole win came here in a bumper (good) in 2017. Went close over hurdles at Hexham (2m7f, good) last June, and beaten 7L from this mark on chase debut at Huntingdon (2m4f, soft) in December. Fell latest. Open to improvement. Interesting.

Bettered anything he achieved in 24 hurdle races on just his second chase start, when scoring here (2m3f, good to soft) last time. Step up in trip could help in his bid to defy a 7lb penalty. Claims.

1-16, having scored over hurdles at Downpatrick (2m3f, good) in 2017. Lost form after that and not seen since September of that year. Has since changed stables and returns in new headgear. Market check probably prudent.

0-14 under rules. Stays this far and seems to handle any ground. Has a squeak from this mark based on his penultimate run at Fakenham in December. Needs to bounce back after being pulled up at Wincanton. Inconsistent, but can't write him off.

Over three years since he won for the only time in a Thurles chase (2m2f, yld), for Elizabeth Doyle. 0-18 since joining this trainer, but has gone close several times, including from this mark at Ludlow (3m, good to soft) in January.

5/1
1-13 fences, but that win came here over C&D, where he has produced three of his best four runs. Another good effort last time, when 7L second. Up 3lb for that, but should again be thereabouts.

Forecasts

Second Time Around (7/2), Earlshill (7/2), Star Foot (9/2), Iskabeg Lane (5/1), Shanroe In Milan (7/1), Balibour (8/1), Follow The Swallow (12/1), Atlantic Breaker (100/1)

Verdict

One of those races where it would not be a huge shock to see any of them win it on their day, but we'll try narrow it down. Iskabeg Lane looks a leading contender for the frame, given his consistency when running here, while Star Foot and Shanroe In Milan are others who could go very close. However, SECOND TIME AROUND is preferred. Alan King's gelding has to get back on track after a fall last time, but he is unexposed and taken to do so.

  2. Star Foot
  3. Iskabeg Lane
