Scrambled home when beating the veteran Lowanbehold by ½L over C&D (good) just over three-weeks ago; predictably the handicapper hasn't acted in an overly punitive manner with a subsequent 3lb rise in the weights.

Without a win since his novice days back in 2015 and that's obviously a concern. However, on the plus side he's not raced at this track since and has fallen right back down the weights; excellent young claimer aboard.

Has been around the block in terms of trainers - back with Ian Duncan now (his last win came for this trainer at Ayr in February 2017); sits on a competitive mark but ideally needs more cut in the ground.

12/1
Runner-up in a weak Class 5 handicap at Newcastle (2m4f, good to soft) on his most recent start over fences; seemingly didn't stay the marathon 3m3f trip over hurdles at Sedgefield latest; eye-catching jockey booking.

28/1
Runner-up on debut for Alison Hamilton in a novices' hurdle at Hexham in April 2017 (100/1) but seldom seen in competitive action since; unconsidered now reverting to fences for a new handler.

Found extra reserves at Newcastle (3m, good) when landing a quickfire chase/hurdles double in November; not always the most fluent of fencers in defeat since; feasible that he'll be gifted a soft lead in this lesser contest; chance.

Forecasts

So Satisfied (9/4), No No Mac (5/2), Kovera (3/1), Present Flight (4/1), Monsieur Bagot (12/1), Killone (28/1)

Verdict

A complex race with very few that you'd be willing to confidently dismiss, not least the recent C&D winner So Satisfied. However, we'll aim to keep things relatively simple in the hope that Richard Patrick can judge the fractions perfectly on the front-end aboard the Tim Vaughan-trained KOVERA. This game gelding returns to action from a 54-day break and can provide his young rider with a first ever Musselburgh winner on just his second ride at the East Lothian venue.
  1. Kovera
  2. So Satisfied
  3. Monsieur Bagot
