Won a heavy ground Pontefract handicap for Kevin Ryan (6f) in 2017, but has barely threatened a repeat in 15 subsequent runs. Returns from a break for a new trainer and looks one to watch unless strong market confidence.
5f winner this time last year at Chelmsford, but career record of 2-29 does not inspire. Reasonable effort at Lingfield over 6f in January, but form has dipped again since and has stamina to prove over this far.
Scored over this trip at Chelmsford last month, when 8lb lower. Respectable effort back there over 6f last time, but the return to this trip looks more positive. Inside draw, and enters calculations.
Has won over this trip both on Tapeta and Polytrack. Now back to 1lb higher than last success. Was entitled to need last run after a break, but does have a bit to do on recent form and from widest of all.
Triple AW as well as once turf winner, and best trip looks to be 1m. Scored over 7f at Wolverhampton last summer, however, and went close from 1lb higher back there in January. Well beaten both runs here though, so has a bit still to prove.
Came as close as he has to winning when ½L second here over C&D in 2017, from 4lb higher. Has been below that level in just four starts since. Changed hands for just 2,000gns last month and probably one to watch on stable debut.
0-6 for Amanda Perrett and cost 20,000gns since last run. Now makes debut for a trainer who has done well when taking on others' cast-offs and it would be no surprise to see a decent run here after a helpful 2lb drop.
Showed some potential in two runs for Roger Varian and has been building steadily with this stable. Was not far away over 6f here last time, and his run there suggested that this return to 7f should suit. Claims.
Multiple AW winner, three of which have come over C&D, including last time out, when 4lb lower. Did win from 2lb higher than today here last year, so remains of interest, but it is a concern that he has never won back-to-back starts.
Scored over this trip at Brighton (good) in October, when 5lb lower and went close here next time. Not as good over 1m when last seen at Lingfield in December. Could be better for a break, but has a bit to prove from this mark.
Both AW wins have come on Wolverhampton's Tapeta, though he appears to handle Polytrack well enough. Went close on the former surface last time, but was beaten here by 4L from this mark prior to that, so work to do.
Well beaten last time on first run after being gelded. Has enough form to suggest that this 2lb lower mark could help him get competitive, but still has that to do on the track itself.
Arrives seeking a hat-trick of C&D successes, having won twice last month. Was a decisive scorer last time, and gets a good draw to work from here, so can't rule out that hat-trick despite latest 7lb rise asking bigger questions.
Scored here over 5f in 2014 and hasn't won on AW since 2015. Plenty to prove over this trip and also based on last month's stable debut.
Forecasts
Elusif (9/4), Captain Dion (4/1), Mochalov (7/1), Confrerie (10/1), Viola Park (11/1), Shamlan (11/1), Qallaab (14/1), Flirtare (16/1), Independence Day (16/1), Merdon Castle (25/1), Reignite (33/1), The King's Steed (33/1), Waqt (66/1), Showdance Kid (100/1)
Mochalov should be capable of getting back to better form now returned to this trip, while Elusiv clearly has to be much respected granted his recent form here. Qallaab has been shaping as though a win could be just around the corner, especially now back up in trip. Viola Park can't be written off, but has yet to win two in succession and the suggestion is to take a chance on FLIRTARE on her first start for Amy Murphy, after dropping to a mark which her trainer can work with.
- Flirtare
- Qallaab
- Mochalov
