Seemed to run above himself at Uttoxeter in July, but has only raced three times since then, and has been well beaten each time. This is a poor race but doubtful it is bad enough.

Won twice over fences back in 2014 but nothing since and losing run now at 18. Produced his best for a while under this rider last week when blinkers were tried for the first time. Mark due to go up 2lb next time.

Point-to-point winner on good ground in May 2017. Struggled under Rules however and he has undergone wind surgery since a poor effort last time. Drop to this trip and much lower mark could spark some improvement.

20-race maiden can be given a chance on his penultimate run when a mistake three out did not help. Back to his more recognisable standard last time when soon beaten. Stable sprang a 20/1 shock in this race four years ago.

47-race maiden who has been well placed by his trainer to pick up place money in small fields on his last five starts. He is 30lb out of the weights in a 0-100 handicap and a share of the scraps is again the best he can hope for.

Verdict

Johnny Yuma has been beaten by wide margins lately but, having had wind surgery and dropping considerably in trip, it would be no surprise if he remained competitive for longer if the ground does not soften any further. Neither VIVACCIO nor Carlo Rocks have won in recent years but both find themselves contesting a very weak race. The latter needs to improve his jumping though and the softer it gets the better his chances. The selection showed improved form in blinkers last week and makes a quick reappearance before a higher mark kicks in. A reproduction of that effort would be good enough.
