Gained reward for a string of consistent performances when staying on strongly to nab Derek Duval at Chelmsford (1m2f) 33-days ago; despite carrying top-weight holds every chance back at Newcastle off a 3lb higher mark.
Didn't sparkle on the AW earlier in her racing career (0-5; mainly at Lingfield); sits 7lb higher than when demolishing a big field of rivals at Redcar (1m2f, good) in the autumn.
Remains a maiden (0-13) but is slowly receiving some form of assistance from the handicapper; finished a fairly close-up (fourth) behind both the progressive Glan Y Gors (winner) and today's rival Dommerson (second) over 1m4f here in mid-January.
Made all to take a soft-ground 1m2f Redcar claimer for Roger Fell in November and has broadly done okay under a different style of riding tactics on the AW since; stablemate of Restive.
Has fallen back down the weights after a couple of modest runs on the AW (1m4f), but when on-song is a versatile type in terms of trip, so shouldn't be unduly inconvenienced by dropping down to 1m2f; stablemate of Remmy D.
Without a win since June 2018 (Musselburgh) but is more or less back to his winning mark; finished 5½L fourth to Elysees Palace over C&D in January (Dommersen second; beaten ¾L); definite hopes of a reversal on revised terms.
Bought for £6,000 from Alan King in January; has experience over hurdles, on the Flat (turf) and on Tapeta/Polytrack (0-4), so could find a suitable winning opportunity in due course; not tonight.
Forecasts
Dommersen (7/4), Rockwood (3/1), Thawry (6/1), Winged Spur (10/1), Restive (10/1), Seaborough (10/1), Remmy D (16/1)
There's every likelihood that the top-weight Dommersen will be in the same form as when winning at Chelmsford 33-days ago, but it's fair to say that he's deserved a short break following a very hectic spell of racing in January. He has clashed with a couple of these rivals previously, including the maiden Thawry and the locally-trained ROCKWOOD. The selection hadn't run for a while (since September) when finishing fourth to the Sir Mark Prescott-trained Elysees Palace over C&D in early January, so on revised terms has a semblance of a chance of reversing placings with Dommersen (second) and therefore gets the speculative value-seeking nod.
- Rockwood
- Thawry
- Dommersen
