Horse A-Z
80,000gns foal, 47,000gns juvenile; demonstrated clear signs of greeness early in the race on debut at Kempton (1m4f) but was ultimately a very taking 2¾L winner; bare worth of that form is untested; penalised, yet remains of significant interest.
Eighth foal; half-brother to six winners including stablemates Rah Rah (5f) and Poets Society (5f-1m); every likelihood that this surface will suit, so worth checking exactly how he fares in the early market exchanges.

$80,000 yearling, €60,000 juvenile; looked in need of the experience when finishing eighth of nine to the promising Dubai Warrior at Chelmsford (1m) in November; telling that Jamie Spencer now partners his better fancied stablemate Almost Midnight.

40/1
£30,000 yearling; first foal out of a 1m AW winning dam (Stereo Love). However, the reality is that he'll probably find others far more streetwise (and stronger) this afternoon.

Kendargent colt out of a 1m French winning dam (Fantanella); will need to be smart to trouble some of the more experienced market principals.

11/8
450,000gns yearling who has progressed with racing; bustled up the 2/7f Solid Stone when last seen in competitive action here in November (7f); debatable on pedigree as to whether or not he really wants an extended 1m2f.

Horse silk
66/1
Half-brother to a couple of winners but has struggled to make much of a positive impression thus far, including when well out of his depth in a small-field affair here (1m) earlier this month; other days ahead.
8
(7)
Horse silk
66/1
18,000gns yearling; hasn't set the world alight so far - too green to do himself justice, although there were signs that the blinkers helped at Wolverhampton last week; stablemate Autumn Pride (and others) more appealing.

Forecasts

Almost Midnight (5/6), Forest Of Dean (11/8), Autumn Pride (7/2), Battle Of Pembroke (20/1), Black Kraken (40/1), Truckingby (66/1), Three Castles (66/1), Fast'n Furious (66/1)

Verdict

Autumn Pride is an interesting newcomer for Mark Johnston, whilst the John Gosden-trained Forest Of Dean sets a reasonably fair standard (with stamina question marks) for the majority of his rivals to aim towards. However, such was the manner of his taking Kempton debut win, you'd be foolhardy to be against the penalised ALMOST MIDNIGHT. Jamie Spencer takes over in the saddle from Stevie Donohoe (partners stablemate Battle Of Pembroke) and he has a 26% strike-rate (13-50) on the Tapeta at Newcastle.
  1. Almost Midnight
  2. Autumn Pride
  3. Forest Of Dean
