Took advantage of having the run of the race and ended a long losing run when winning over C&D last time out. Went with plenty of brio to win fairly comfortably; up 3lb he's won off higher marks in the past and should remain competitive.

One of four C&D winners amongst this sextet he was easy to back and disappointing on his first start for this yard. He's edged a little further down the weights now and this yard are adept at refreshing such types; this will tell us more.

Quirky sort with a very poor win-to-run ratio but has won over C&D and appreciated the drop into claiming company to win over this trip on Tapeta (penultimate start). Ran respectably last time over C&D; question of which version of him turns up.

Course winner over 1f shorter on his penultimate start on Fibresand debut (caused a 25-1 shock); the surface looking to suit him well. Failed to follow up over C&D, running a miserable race and folding up quickly in the closing stages.

Finished well in front of Epitaph last time on his Fibresand/handicap debut but bumping into a well handicapped rival. Travelled well on that occasion and takes his chance off the same mark here; looks sure to give another good display.

9/2
C&D winner who has also won over 2f further although both those victories came in lower grades than he will face today. Failed to fire at Lingfield last time over 2m (didn't get the run of the race); should fare better returned to Fibresand.

Forecasts

Purple Rock (15/8), Harbour Quay (11/4), Seasearch (9/2), Epitaph (6/1), High Command (10/1), Handsome Bob (16/1)

Verdict

Despite the small field this looks competitive and we are not sure of course form here with five of them having won on Fibresand. Purple Rock still looks competitive off his mark but he was seen to full effect last time from the front and he may not get things so easy today. HARBOUR QUAY made a sound start to his handicap/Fibresand career and he’s chosen to go one better than last time when he ran into a well-handicapped individual. Seasearch is likely to appreciate a return here but this company is a little stiffer than he’s been facing while the Mick Appleby duo both have questions to answer.
  1. Harbour Quay
  2. Purple Rock
  3. Seasearch
