4/1
Former Philip Hobbs and Henry De Bromhead inmate who has won 4-19 over fences at up to 3m1f, but mainly 2m4f. Best on softer ground. Was fourth in the Punchestown Gold Cup in 2017. Cost £50,000 in August. Should be competitive on hunter debut.

The Last But One9
Age: 7|  Weight: 12-2| J: Mr William Biddick| T: T Malone| OR:  130
10/11
Has won 3-6 over fences at up to 2m5½f, all with cut in the ground. Ran well enough on good when last seen under rules in July, and comes into this in good form from points. Wouldn't have the class of Champagne West, but may be good enough today.

Mantoup,t40
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-13| J: Mr Ed Glassonbury(3)| T: S Allwood| OR:  114
20/1
Won a Sedgefield novice hunter chase (2m3½f, good) last April, and ran with credit in a hunters' handicap at Stratford in June. Pulled up on reappearance at Ludlow last month, and looks up against it here.

Has won 2-46 over fences, and arrives as the rank outsider both on form and official ratings.

Seefood187

9/4
Won 4-19 chases, the latest for Dr Richard Newland being in November 2016 at Musselburgh (2m4f, good), from a mark of 127. Had just five runs since, and was still solid in most of those. Trainer 5-13 in past five years, so needs taking seriously.

Forecasts

The Last But One (10/11), Seefood (9/4), Champagne West (4/1), Mantou (20/1), Irish Thistle (100/1)

Verdict

At his best, Champagne West would be far too good for this field, but he has not won when fresh for a long time and is taken on on this stable debut. The Last But One arrives in cracking form from point-to-points and is probably the obvious choice here, with Will Biddick assigned, but we'll take a chance on SEEFOOD, who is in good hands and receives weight from that pair. He is taken to make a winning stable debut.
  1. Seefood
  2. The Last But One
  3. Champagne West
