Bumper winner last term and showed good attitude to win at Wetherby in December in race that has worked out well (second and fourth won since). No disgrace when failing to give 6lb to smart ex-Flat performer last time and now back in calmer waters.
Beat a subsequent winner at Clonmel in December. Not disgraced in two runs since including handicap latest and should play prominent role in slightly weaker contest.
Placed in a couple of Point-to-points in Ireland last spring but much more needed to be of interest on rules debut.
Landed a gamble in Sedgefield Bumper in the autumn though fortunate to do so. Sold for £25,000 subsequently and ran poorly in another such event on debut for this yard.
Off the mark at the fifth attempt in a Point-to-point in 2017 but absent since and belated rules debut now.
Fetched £20,000 after Point-to-point second in 2017. Showed some promise when filling same position in Bumper here last month. Hurdles debut now and step up in trip should be in his favour.
Cost £32,000 after winning a pair of Point-to-points last year. Has shown some form in a trio of hurdles but handicaps likely to see him in a better light.
Showed ability in bumpers when with Gordon Elliott last year. Now debuts for new yard (same owner) and has had a wind operation since last seen.
Slight step forward at Kelso last time though that form has taken some knocks. Up in trip and probably one for further down the line.
Much improved effort from the front when third in similar contest here recently. May have been suited by the drop down to 2m that day and has to prove he can build on that at this longer trip.
Point-to-point winner who showed little on rules debut but then sprang a 40/1 shock over C&D last month. Not sure what that form amounts to as the long odds favourite pulled up but entitled to improve.
Has shown little ability in bumpers and hurdling debut and needs to show dramatic improvement to of interest against these rivals.
Did land three Point-to-points in 2018 but hurdles form prior to that was poor and not hard to look elsewhere.
Forecasts
Western Honour (4/6), Northern Soul (9/2), Manetti (7/1), Welsh Rarebit (20/1), Looks Like Murt (20/1), Leverock Lass (20/1), Rollerruler (25/1), Nearly Man (25/1), Largy Prospect (40/1), Steak And Spuds (50/1), Honourary Gift (50/1), Flaming Glory (50/1), Ciarabella (66/1)
Not many can be fancied in this opener and NORTHERN SOUL could be the value against Irish raider Western Honour. Welsh Rarebit has to prove he stays this trip but if he does can make the frame.
- Northern Soul
- Western Honour
