The form of his penultimate start (over C&D) was well advertised by Epeius on Friday. However, on that very same card (5f) this gelding raced keenly before weakening to finish 2½L fourth to Jan Van Hoof; vulnerable.
Thoroughly consistent over C&D since December (has various form-lines closely associated with today's rival Duke Cosimo); 5lb higher than when beating Bobby Joe Leg and Friday's winner Epeius 27-days ago.
Still a maiden on the AW (0-11) but has made the frame on various occasions, including over 7f here in September; 1lb higher than when beaten ½L by Newstead Abbey at Southwell (6f) 15-days ago.
C&D form figures read 4,1,6,1; 3lb higher than when beating the fast-finishing Irish raider Ken's Sams by a nose latest; more required with young 7lb claimer Harry Russell again in the saddle.
Continuing to climb in the weights and although ideally requiring things to drop just right is a thoroughly likeable type; has various form-lines with Avenue Of Stars; holds a definite shout based upon his short-head C&D second to Athollblair Boy.
6f Leicester winner (Class 5) for Gay Kelleway in August but below-par on both starts for this trainer (on the AW); visor applied in a bid to capitalise upon a falling handicap mark.
No sign of a return to form post wind surgery and now 0-4 for this trainer since being bought out of a 7½f seller at Beverley (formerly with David O'Meara); falling in the weights accordingly.
Rattled up a Newcastle hat-trick (6f-7f) in late 2017 and looked to be on the right track again in the early autumn/winter (beaten a short-head over C&D by Dandy Highwayman); not so strong since.
Just 1-20 on the AW, and although placed off this mark over C&D on her penultimate start the worth of that bare form-line is questionable (winner beaten here on Friday; runner-up second at Dundalk since); others are far more prolific.

Forecasts
Avenue Of Stars (3/1), Duke Cosimo (5/1), Muatadel (5/1), Gowanbuster (5/1), Thorntoun Lady (7/1), Dandy Highwayman (8/1), Major Crispies (12/1), Breathoffreshair (14/1), Peachey Carnehan (14/1), Capla Demon (25/1)
A tough looking finale with a plethora of overlapping form-lines, so stakes should be kept to the bare minimum. At the projected odds there's potential value in being against the free-running Gowanbuster but the bulk of the remainder are all much of a muchness. DUKE COSIMO could be suited by the way in which this race will be run (a good early gallop) and as a result gets the nod over his frequent rival Avenue Of Stars. Others for the short-list include the rising in the weights duo Peachey Carnehan and Dandy Highwayman.
- Duke Cosimo
- Avenue Of Stars
- Peachey Carnehan
