Unraced half-brother to a 1m2f winner in France, out of a half-sister to Cirrus Des Aigles, a multiple winner on the Flat. Cost €36,000 and makes some appeal for a race of this nature. Worth a betting check but likely he'll need the run.

Mixed form in Irish point-to-points before making a modest debut at Ffos Las in January. Big step forward required.

Ordinarly form posted in two bumpers so far and has had wind surgery since last seen. Resold for £35,000 at the Cheltenham sales in December, so needs to repay the faith shown in him. One to monitor in the betting.

A half-brother to bumper winner Spice Girl ans has plenty of stamina packed on the dam side of his pedigree. Didn't show much on debut at Southwell a year ago and off-putting he's not been seen out since. One to treat with caution.

A €60,000 purchase - by Fame And Glory out of seven-time winner Inch Pride - the gelding made no impact on debut at Wincanton last month and already has improvement to find. Possible he needed that experience but needs to up his game this time.

Cost 30,000 gns and made good progress so far. C&D winner last month and was comfortably in command near the finish. Good chance of following up on these terms. Has to be on the shortlist.

A Pour Moi gelding out of a half-sister to the classy Stay The Night, he ran a blinder to win on debut at Warwick; creating the impression he has a bright future ahead. Another to bear in mind despite the penalty for winning.

Cost $275,000 as a yearling but swapped hands for just £9,000 at the sales in July; made a pleasing enough debut in similar company at Huntingdon last month though. Step forward required but worth bearing in mind for a place in the frame here.

Finished in front of just one rival in decent looking bumper at Newbury last month. The worth of that form has yet to be tested though. Improvement required nevertheless.

Keen on debut at Huntingdon in November but only faded 2f from home. Been given time to get over those exertions and likely to know more this time. A candidate to cut out the running but debatable whether he's yet good enough to hold onto the lead.

Hinted at ability on debut but failed to build on it when last seen in November (finished tailed off). Plenty to prove now.

Makes some appeal on pedigree but has been well beaten in both previous starts. Others more convincing at this stage.

Forecasts

Arkyn (5/4), Pour Joie (11/4), Ehmaj (11/2), Lantiern (10/1), Eye Of An Eagle (12/1), Steady Away (14/1), Reeceltic (16/1), Parisian Affair (33/1), Glengar (33/1), Richie Valentine (50/1), Libbretta (100/1), Ethandexter (100/1)

Verdict

There is likely to be a bit more to come from ARKYN, who has made good progress in his starts up to press. The gelding won with plenty in hand over C&D last time and could be up to carrying the penalty in this company. Similar comments apply to fellow four-year-old Pour Joie, who was also a game winner when he was introduced at Warwick in January. He should go well if adapting to this surface. Lantiern and Eye Of An Eagle are a couple of others to monitor in the betting.

  3. Lantiern
