Was becoming ultra-expensive to follow after five consecutive runner-up spots at this course. Still doesn't look the easiest but has managed to win a couple of consecutive weak events over C&D; still to win a handicap, risks not forgotten.

Two-time course winner who has won over this trip but he's very little coming back from a break in two recent starts. Back in headgear last time (retained here) he needs to show more to be of interest even off a reducing mark.

Makes his first start on this surface (pedigree gives hope that he will act on it); winner over 5f at Kempton on his penultimate start, had plenty in hand at finish. Ran well under a penalty last time (Newcastle, 5f); likely to continue in form.

Four-time C&D winner who got back to winning ways with consecutive victories at Newcastle (5f) last month. Suffered the odd blip at the same track since but won't be hindered by a return here and more straightforward than some of these.

Forecasts

Point Zero (7/4), Spirit Power (2/1), Archimedes (9/4), Piazon (4/1), Jacob's Pillow (10/1)

Verdict

Both Point Zero and Piazon have winning form over C&D but neither is the most trustworthy and despite the former winning his last two races both those contests were weak heats and he’s lumbered with a 6lb penalty here. The latter of that duo is capable and still lurks on a good mark but he can hang markedly in his races and can’t be considered a solid option. Spirit Power is untested on this surface but is in good form and would have earnt the vote but for the presence of ARCHIMEDES who will appreciate a return to this surface. He didn’t his usual positive ride last time a return to those tactics may see him add a fifth C&D win to his record.
  1. Archimedes
  2. Point Zero
  3. Spirit Power
