Finished fourth (beaten just over 1½L) in this grade over 7f here in December; failed to get home in a Class 4 handicap at Chelmsford (7f) last week and that same vulnerability could be exposed over this extended mile.

His Wolverhampton form figures (over 7f) since Boxing Day read 2,2,1; well on top of Zapper Class (Misty Birnam sixth) when scoring for today's rider Megan Nicholls in a classified claimer latest; stays this trip.

Back from a short break when beating Skydiving by ½L in a C&D selling stakes in early January; probably flattered by an official AW rating of 85, albeit this isn't necessarily the strongest of races; couldn't be dismissed.

Didn't run too badly in a 7f Class 4 handicap at Chelmsford last week when finishing sixth to Glenn Coco (Los Camachos seventh); far better than this grade in the fairly recent past; worth chancing in the newly-applied hood.

Still a maiden on the AW (0-6) and reportedly bled from the nose when finishing last of six (3/1) in a C&D classified selling stakes 18-days ago; risky proposition at present.

Verdict

A race which makes no appeal whatsoever for punting purposes with plenty of imponderables. On official ratings Dark Alliance has work to do with a few of these rivals but at least we know that he stays this trip, arrives in excellent form and has a talented 5lb claimer in the saddle. Los Camachos (vulnerable at 1m) and the veteran Mister Music can't be definitively dismissed, although it's probably worth chancing the newly-hooded STEEL TRAIN. His trainer David O' Meara saddles plenty of winners in such races and this 8yo ran a respectable race in a Class 4 handicap at Chelmsford last week.
  1. Steel Train
  2. Dark Alliance
  3. Mister Music
