Hard to win with these days; often shapes well but flatters to deceive and has a very inconsistent profile. Has run well over C&D in the past and looks well-in off this mark and down to this 0-100 grade; not one to rely on.

Blessed with a rather unconvincing profile (well beaten in two Hunter Chases and novice hurdles); failed to complete in three of his last four point-to-points. Not seen since last May and makes his handicap chase debut; limited appeal.

C&D winner off his same mark just under a year ago and shaped as though he was getting back to that sort of form (off higher marks) on first two runs back from a break (one over C&D). Ran poorly last time (pulled up); questions to answer now.

Revived last time out holding on grimly to win by ½ length at Warwick beating the gamble of the race (Redmond pulled up) in a change of headgear; appreciated drop in weights. Up 5lb (still well weighted on old form); has to prove he can follow up.

Took a while to cash in on a falling mark but eventually did so at Wincanton (2m4f, good). Failed to follow up off an 8lb higher mark at Fakenham last time although the ground may have been too soft; that may well be the case again here.

Dual course winner (one over this trip); showed that there is still life in the old legs when winning over 2m4f, soft last time; helped by a much reduced mark. May not find conditions so favourable here but usually comes to life at this time of year.

Hardly has the most compelling profile having been pulled up on three of her last five starts including on his chase debut last time. Let down by her jumping on that occasion (fencing was laboured); she remains an unsafe proposition.

Got no further than the first on a recent chase debut (fell) and that hardly gives you ant confidence here. Still remains above his last winning mark over hurdles which was gained in a weak contest; makes limited appeal.

Ground out a victory in very poor race when wearing a first-time tongue-tie over 3m2f here on soft ground (has a very hard race). Ran no sort of race next time out and now returns from a break/wind op over a trip that looks too short.

Forecasts

Sartorial Elegance (11/4), Arquebusier (7/2), Redmond (4/1), Remember Forever (5/1), Ring Minella (6/1), Goring One (8/1), Polo The Mumm (9/1), Aero Majestic (20/1), Kiwi Myth (25/1), Canyouhearmenow (25/1)

Verdict

Not that many if any with what you would call a solid/consistent profile and ARQUEBUSIER is selected in the hope that he can repeat his battling Warwick victory having been given nearly a month off. Sartorial Elegance ought to be able to operate in this grade and on a going day (few and far between) get in the mix here although he’s not one to trust. Goring One isn’t getting any younger and could probably do with a bit more give in the ground but he has won around here before. Remember Forever and Redmond also have chances in what is essentially a very weak heat and will go to the one who is on his game on the day.
  1. Arquebusier
  2. Goring One
  3. Remember Forever
