French chase winner made a promising enough start to life for this yard when third in a 2m novice hurdle here. Step up in trip shouldn't be an issue (ran over 2m5f in France) and enters handicaps a highly unexposed horse.

Gained first win over hurdles at Hexham in May (2m4f good) but struggled in three starts this term after his summer break. Handicap tumbled to within 1lb of that win now but will need a major step up.

Campaigned on the Flat last summer winning 2 of his 11 races in a season culminating in him finishing down the field in the Cesarewitch. Very smart at his best over hurdles and fences and serious player if fully wound up off this mark.

Gained third career success over hurdles at Musselburgh latest over 2m4f on good ground. Rise of 3lb for that far from unreasonable so expecting another bold bid and addition of visor interesting.

Lost his way for Brian Ellison but revitalised by change of scenery as he won stable debut at Wetherby, Only midfield since in warm Ascot race suggesting handicapper again has hold but not totally ruled out here.

Maiden of two point-to-points, a bumper and two novice hurdles but both starts over timber showed ability with two second placed finishes. Not set impossible task on handicap debut and likely he has more to give with time.

On the go continuously since January 2018 winning three of 16 races in that spell. Only 2lb higher than most recent win now but not in great form last couple and generally comes up short in class 4 contests.

Always Resolute (9/4), Defi Sacre (4/1), Its'afreebee (5/1), Quest For Life (6/1), Chebsey Beau (6/1), Kingston (12/1), Mr Jack (12/1), Present From Dubai (14/1)

Verdict

DEFI SACRE is a very unexposed horse as he enters handicaps and shaped with significant promise here on his UK debut so could very easily prove capable off this opening mark and he gets the nod. At his best Its'afreebee would have hacked up off this mark and although he may not quite be the force of old his flat campaign showed there remains enough ability to go close here. Chebsey Beau hasn't been harshly treated for his Musselburgh win last time out so is another with sound claims.
