Accumulated some impressive career statistics in Italy and France (10-27), including a better than 50% AW strike-rate (9-16); blinkers and tongue-tie are worn on GB debut with the handicapper taking no chances with an opening mark of 103.
Finished third to Corinthia Knight (beaten almost 2L) in a similar Class 2 handicap over 5f here on his penultimate start; excuses latest (dwelt and never involved) - dropped 2lb since; his last five wins have come over this trip (on turf).
With Luca Cumani when finishing fifth in a 6f Listed contest at Newmarket (good to firm) in October; sold for 200,000gns in December and ran well on debut for Archie Watson (third) over C&D last weekend; chance.
Has finished runner-up on three occasions since mid-November (5f-6f), including at Southwell on New Years Day when beaten ½L by Moonraker; upped in grade, and seeking to shed the AW maiden tag (0-11).
On an upward curve on the AW in recent months having won two of his last three starts (5f at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford); 3lb above his last winning mark but more worryingly raised from a Class 4 contest; could come up short back at 6f.
In fair form on Polytrack and Fibresand in recent weeks, albeit at a much lower level (Class 4 & 5); 5lb higher than for his C&D win (penultimate start) when soon putting his nine rivals firmly in their place from out of the gates.
Forecasts
Shamshon (3/1), Gorgeous Noora (7/2), Watchable (4/1), Teruntum Star (5/1), Tan (6/1), Giogiobbo (6/1)
The feature race on today's Lingfield card. Many of those declared are in excellent order at present although a step up in grade to a Class 2 handicap asks considerably more from the likes of Shamson and Tan, whilst Giogiobbo has a back-catalogue in Italy and France and an exceptional AW strike-rate. However, more obvious contenders are Terentum Star and GORGEOUS NOORA. The selection ran well on debut for Archie Watson over C&D on Saturday finishing third (unlucky in running) to Alsvinder. Theoretically that race should put her spot on for this, and she can recoup a small portion of her recent 200,000gns purchase price.
- Gorgeous Noora
- Teruntum Star
- Shamshon
