Hasn't travelled with any real fluency through his races of late and it all appears laboured; blinkers are applied seeking an additional spark; mark falling, albeit this track isn't a venue where you prosper when getting behind early.

Winner off a 3lb lower mark at Perth in August (3m, good) so has the bare credentials but has become disappointing of late, hitting the deck early on here in October; risky yet not totally discounted.

Doesn't win all that often (2-20 over fences) so that goes some way to explaining the presence of newly applied blinkers. That said, he is largely consistent on the whole and his recent Catterick second to Nortonthorpelegend (3m1f+) reads well.

Hexham specialist; strongest over 3m on quick ground; worth completely ignoring one of his runs this season (came over 4m) and not without a fair chance if doing so; handicap mark easing; conditions favourable; of interest in a weak race.

0-8 under rules and well beaten on chasing debut (2m4f novices' handicap) at Hexham in December; hood applied presumably in a bid to force him too settle; holds little realistic chance from out of the handicap.

Forecasts

Achill Road Boy (5/4), Wood Pigeon (2/1), Golden Investment (5/2), Arizona Bound (5/1), Apache Pilot (11/2), Solid Strike (11/2), Grimthorpe (40/1)

Verdict

A modest finale in which the newly blinkered Achill Road Boy arrives in the strongest form. However, although his chance is a relatively clear one on paper he's far from the most frequent of winners. Therefore, we can aim for a better priced alternative with the conditions proven Arizona Bound a definite contender if bringing his 'A game' to the table. However, a real shot in the dark is aimed towards the Hexham specialist APACHE PILOT. His handicap mark is easing (now just 1lb above his last winning mark), presenting conditions are favourable and he has held valid excuses in some of his races so far this season. He remains of interest at the projected prices.
  1. Apache Pilot
  2. Achill Road Boy
  3. Arizona Bound
