Proving to be a disappointment over fences so far with all three of his runs not getting near the level of his hurdles form. Had some wind surgery before his last start but still seemed out of sorts; fell heavily and questions to answer.
Has some fair form to his name over hurdles (yet to win in that discipline); he looked to run to a similar level on his chase debut. Had little chance in that at the weights (beaten 32L by smart type); chance off this mark but needs to jump better.
Chase winner at Ludlow nearly two years ago he's been lightly raced since and was below form when last seen in October (had been off 5 months). Looked amiss then (had travelled well to a point) but likely to need this and mark still looks stiff.
Useful maiden over hurdles (may have lost his way a little) who has already shown an aptitude for fences; returns after some wind surgery. Failed to match his good chase debut last time but off a nice weight here down in grade; respected.
Three-times a winner over fences (3-11) but has on occasions made plenty of mistakes; not one to totally rely on. Well held since his last win (over hurdles last time) with this mark just looking one that tests him to the maximum.
His form at Ffos Las last time was an improvement on anything he had shown before and on his 2nd chase start after a year off he did look as though he would win when falling. Up 6lb for that mishap but still well weighted; stable can do little wrong.
Taken a while to get his act together over fences (better with forcing tactics over 2m) and that style of running produced two wins at the backend of last season. Came back after an 8 month break in similar fashion (good 2nd); capable off this mark.
Forecasts
Air De Rock (15/8), Doc Carver (2/1), Lickpenny Larry (9/2), Dark Invader (8/1), Paddy's Poem (12/1), Rainy Day Dylan (16/1), Deadly Approach (25/1)
Venetia Williams has her stable in rude health (10-24 last 14 days) and she may have already struck on this card before AIR DE ROCK takes to the Chepstow turf and bids to return to winning form have toppled over at the 2nd last on his previous outing. He’s been raised 6lb for that outing but should still have enough in hand of this field. Front-running tactics appear to have rejuvenated Lickpenny Larry who won a couple from the front at the end of last season and went close on his return at Bangor. Doc Carver is back from wind surgery and down in grade off a mark that he ought to be able to win off while Paddy’s Poem isn’t out of this.
- Air De Rock
- Lickpenny Larry
- Doc Carver
