Has some decent efforts to his name, such as his close second in a valuable Ayr handicap last spring, but is hard to win with and the handicapper isn't cutting him a lot of slack either. May need this after a break too (record fresh is mixed).
Very useful on his day but last couple of efforts have been below par, and needs to bounce back now. Step back up in trip may help his cause, as would a good pace, but looking a bit risky at present.
Stays further than this but last couple of wins have both been at this trip. Might have found the company a bit too hot in the valuable Caspian Caviar last time and this is easier. Yard going well and with ground ideal, looks a player.
Unlucky to be raised 3lb for a fall at Chepstow last time but would likely have been second to one that was well treated, so lost little in defeat. Yard among the winners again and if picking his feet up, has chances here.
Impressive when winning at Kempton in October but a mistake at Wetherby in a valuable Listed chase soon did for him. Has had a break since, which may help (often goes well fresh) and folly to discount, with conditions fine.
Showed he still has something to offer when a winner at Ayr last spring (holds both Sizing Platinum and Theinval on that form) but well held since then and may need to drop another pound or two before getting back on the win trail.
Veteran that pops up now and again when he has his conditions (as he does today) but the good runs becoming few and far between and he was well beaten at Ludlow last time. Always capable of the shock, but a risky proposition.
Forecasts
Copain De Classe (7/4), Calipto (7/2), Catamaran Du Seuil (4/1), Theinval (8/1), Opening Batsman (10/1), Value At Risk (10/1), Sizing Platinum (16/1)
One or two of these have questions to answer, and it may pay to stick with the in-form Venetia Williams and CALIPTO, who can make amends for his unseat at Chepstow last time when, at worst, he would have been second. Hugh Nugent takes a useful 7lb off and he looks the one to beat. Catamaran Du Seuil might be the one to follow him home, with Copain De Claisse best of the rest.
