Improved on third start over fences when runner-up in six-runner beginners' chase at Thurles over 2m2f last month. Chance to build on that now sent handicapping.
Returned to form last month at Cork over similar trip, making most of the running and sticking on gamely to win. Claims in the same form despite going up 6lb in the ratings.
Four-time winner over hurdles, though yet to suggest he'll be replicating that form over fences. Beaten 40L in last month's handicap chase bow at Punchestown (2m6½f, good), drops right back in trip here.
Lightly-raced for an eight-year-old, delivered on promise of Thurles beginners' chase showing when scoring over 2m2f (good) at same venue on handicap bow, doing well from the front. Should be more to come.
Has been left toiling in a number of starts since returning to action in August, sent off at big odds on each occasion, and doesn't seem to retain old ability/enthusiasm.
Showed best form over fences when runner-up in eight-runner Clonmel handicap (2m2f, yielding) this month. Will be in the shake-up with similar showing dropped to 2m.
Won over this trip at Cork on heavy ground in April, rated 99 at the time. Fair fourth last month at Gowran Park after 207 days off and should come on fitness-wise for that run.
Without a win in tem chase starts and best watched here having been well beaten at Tramore last week on first start for over 14-months.
Galway win in October and ran well for a long way until falling three out in a Grade 2 penultimate start when a 100/1 shot. Fair fourth at Navan on Sunday, place claims despite quick turnaround.
22-race maiden finished well beaten in a 2m2f beginners' chase at Thurles on good-to-firm ground here last time out. Making his handicap debut here.
Generally well held in six seasonal handicap chase starts. Not getting any younger and only briefly threatened to challenge at Tramore last week before folding.
20-race maiden but put in one of his better efforts when finishing fourth over fences at Kilbeggan in April before being pulled up when tailed off on return to action in September. Plenty to prove at present.
Forecasts
Barna Venture (9/2), Well Tom (5/1), Perfect Leader (6/1), Punches Cross (7/1), Hard Bought (8/1), Shrewdoperator (8/1), Dark Outsider (10/1), Rebel Turn (12/1), Maighnealta (14/1), Duke Cass (20/1), Jimmyjames (25/1), Customer (25/1)
BARNA VENTURE delivered on handicap bow at Thurles recently, going well in front and repelling the challenge when asked to. A 6lb rise may note stop the lightly-raced eight-year-old from going well once more dropped in distance. Dark Outsider was back to form at Cork last time and should be in the mix while Maighnealta can also challenge with a repeat of his Clonmel showing. Shrewdoperator is on a decent mark and should be fitter for the run at Gowran Park on his comeback.
- Barna Venture
- Dark Outsider
- Maighnealta
