Chepstow handicap winner last season (heavy ground) over a slightly shorter trip off a 2lb higher mark. Failed to run to that form on two subsequent occasions; shaped better than finishing position when last seen (trip too far); can be quirky.

Well backed on her penultimate start but failed to fire under testing conditions before showing lots more enthusiasm to win last time under better conditions. Faces slightly softer conditions here (should cope); well worth her 7lb for last win.

Looks to have been heading in the right direction in novice hurdles and showed modest promise on his handicap debut after 7 months off. Dropped 2lb from his initial mark but still looks as though more is needed from a mark that still looks stiff.

Has returned from a break looking a better performer; won her last two handicaps the second one under a 7lb penalty at Taunton (rallied well after the last). Has another 7lb rise to cope with to complete her hat-trick; hard to ignore.

Trainer has an excellent record with recruits from other stables but he's not been able to turn this one around yet. Showed a little more last time (handicap debut) when falling at the last (booked for a place); off the same mark here up in trip.

San Pedro De Senamb21
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-8| J: N F Houlihan(10)| T: G & J Moore| OR:  106
11/2
Small-field chase winner who has been switched back to hurdles of late in a bid to find some form. His last run suggested that he was still out of sorts despite travelling well for some way but finding little when asked; runs off career-low mark.

Had been shaping well prior to finally coming good in a Fontwell handicap last time travelling well and scoring with a little in hand. First-time tongue-tie worn for that win is retained here; he's less exposed than many at this level; strong chance.

Lightly-raced in the last few years (last win came over three years ago) he's only had four runs since (all at Southwell, last win also there). Showed the benefit of his reappearance when running a sound race last time, 2nd (winner/third won since).

Hood now added to his usual tongue-tie instead of cheekpieces to see if any improvement can be found as his form in handicaps so far is rather modest. Managed to finish 5th last time (best effort) but has something to find here to get involved.

Forecasts

Midnight Glory (5/2), Silver Sea (5/1), San Pedro De Senam (11/2), Trigger Nichol (6/1), Misty Bloom (8/1), Mixchievous (10/1), Western Morning (10/1), Rasasee (12/1), Theredballoon (20/1), Surf And Turf (20/1), Mr Jack (33/1)

Verdict

Fairly ordinary handicap hurdle fare to start the card but there are three last time out winners in the field. The best of those may well turn out to be SILVER SEA who looks to have more to offer at this level having won nicely Fontwell last time having travelled well through the contest. The other two last time winners Midnight Glory and Misty Bloom aren’t written off lightly though with the former of that duo also looking to have some scope. Theredballoon looks a fragile sort but he ran well last time although it remains to be seen how he performs away from his beloved Southwell. Surf And Turf drops in grade while a market move for Trigger Nichol should be noted.
  1. Silver Sea
  2. Theredballoon
  3. Midnight Glory
