Irish point-to-point winner (1-5 in that sphere; pulled-up three times); has twice caught the eye over hurdles particularly at Sedgefield on his second start. Been held-up in his last two starts (given plenty to do) and looks the type for handicaps.
Cost £26,000 earlier this year and has plenty of placed point-to-point form to his name but offered little on his Rules debut over hurdles at Ayr (2m4f, heavy). Dropped away quickly (pulled up) and is now tongue-tied for the first time; up in trip.
Makes his debut for this yard having previously raced in bumpers/hurdles for Ken Slack. Has played up at the start the last twice, unseated rider on the first occasion and refused to race last time; blinkers now added to last time hood; one to avoid.
Useful sort at one time on the Flat; yet to totally convince over hurdles despite five runner-up efforts (mostly at Cartmel over the summer). Looks the sort to be destined to find one too good and stamina must be a doubt here; 2m6f furthest so far.
100-1 chance on her hurdling debut at Hexham (2m, good) having previously achieved very little in an Ayr bumper. The first-time tongue-tie (retained here) appeared to help and this stamina test which she is bred for looks more suitable.
Forecasts
Morraman (11/10), The Steward (13/8), Glenlora (6/1), Skyhill (14/1), Tab Hogarth (40/1)
The perennial bridesmaid over hurdles The Steward gets the chance to chance to break his maiden over jumps and this must be his easiest opportunity yet but he has fluffed his lines on occasions like this before. He was good enough to run in Group races on the Flat but has shown nothing approaching that form over hurdles and with his stamina a question mark MORRAMAN is preferred. He may benefit from a more positive ride given that he was held-up in a steadily run contest last time and looks to have some potential over staying trips. The same could be said of Glenlora at a lesser level who can be expected to step forward on her Hexham run over a more suitable trip.
