Made a fairly pleasing nursery debut at Kempton (1m) a fortnight ago when beaten less than 1½L by Rambaldi; faces a different test over the straight mile; shortlisted.

Didn't run too badly (fourth) in a 7f Redcar claimer last month but significantly more is required in order to be competitive on nursery debut.

Related to winners over staying trips (1m2f-2m) and has been brought along steadily by Antony Brittain; 3lb higher than when beaten a neck by Burning Lake here (7f) latest; holds every chance based upon that evidence.

Consistent filly who was a winner for this rider on her AW debut over 7f here in September; 5lb higher, yet continues in decent shape; very difficult to knock.

Dropped 3lb since finishing fifth on 7f AW debut (Darwina fourth) at Wolverhampton just under a fortnight ago; pedigree screams sprint trips (brother to the 6f winner Roy's Dream); stamina doubts at 1m.

Upped in trip (from 6f) for nursery debut at Leicester (good to soft) last month when finishing a staying on 7¾L fourth of nine to Sesame; AW debut.

Built upon an improved run at Musselburgh (7f) when scoring on AW debut over that same trip here last month (beating Jem Scuttle by ½L); a 6lb rise is probably enough, yet remains lightly-weighted and is a half-brother to two winning milers.

Nine-race maiden; her previous AW experiences are all limited to Chelmsford (7f-1m) and she doesn't appear to be a winner in waiting.

Fallen 7lb since introduced to nurseries; brought her career record to 0-6 when finishing an always in the rear eighth of 11 at Wolverhampton (1m+) 13 days ago; most unlikely.

Verdict

The top-weight Red Phoenix is shortlisted after making a solid nursery debut at Kempton, albeit with the acknowledgement that competing over the straight mile at Newcastle is a completely different test. MELGATE MAJEURE has shown improved form of late and broke his duck when scoring on his AW debut over 7f here last month. A subsequent 6lb rise in the handicap will make life tougher but he remains lightly-weighted and could be suited by stepping up in trip. Others to consider include My Ukulele and Klipperty Klopp.
  1. Melgate Majeure
  2. Klipperty Klopp
  3. Red Phoenix
