Invest Southwest Handicap Hurdle

Off time: 15:10 | Winning time: 4m 3.10s

Cool Macavity⁹

Age: 10| Weight: 11-12| J: Miss H Welch⁽⁷⁾| T: Alexandra Dunn| OR: 110| D

16/1

Well beaten on the Flat in recent starts and pulled up in selling company when last in action over hurdles in September.

Form: F4-P23P

Magical Thomas^p,t⁴¹

Age: 6| Weight: 11-11| J: T Scudamore| T: N P Mulholland| OR: 109| D

6/4

Completed a double when winning over an extended 2m1f at Fontwell (good) in August. Closed third there subsequently and another bold show looks likely.

Form: 942113

Borak^p¹⁸

Age: 6| Weight: 11-8| J: Robert Williams⁽³⁾| T: B J Llewellyn| OR: 106| D

5/2

Returned from a short break with victory in a handicap hurdle over an extended 1m7f at Wincanton (firm) last time out. Raised 3lb for that success and is one for the shortlist once more.

Form: 411361

Mead Vale³⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 11-6| J: Tom Cannon| T: N J Hawke| OR: 104

10/1

Placed twice in novice hurdles but struggled upped to 2m7f at Bangor (good) on handicap debut last month. Worth a check in the market dropping in distance.

Form: 03-25

Catchin Time¹⁶²

Age: 10| Weight: 11-0| J: Charlie Hammond⁽⁵⁾| T: L Hurley| OR: 98| D

7/2

Placed on each of his last four starts most recently over 2m at Uttoxeter (good) in June. Market support would be notable on his return from a break.

Form: 453-322

Silver Quay⁹

Age: 6| Weight: 10-9| J: Bryony Le Clerc⁽³⁾| T: J D Frost| OR: 93

25/1

Well beaten over an extended 2m2f at Exeter (good) earlier this month on his return from a break. Well over two years since his most recent victory.

Form: 05-P650

Mr Lando^t²³

Age: 9| Weight: 10-6| J: R T Dunne| T: J Farrelly| OR: 90| D

25/1

Struggled over 2m1f at Exeter (good-to-firm) last month when returning from a break. More needed if he's to take this contest.

Form: 14-9700

Thundering Home^b,t²³

Age: 11| Weight: 10-0| J: Harry Reed⁽³⁾| T: N R Mitchell| OR: 77| D

33/1

Winner of 14 races but finished well held at Exeter (2m1f, good-to-firm) last month on his return from a break. Well handicapped on his old form but others hold stronger claims.

Form: 6307-F0

Forecasts

Magical Thomas (6/4), Borak (5/2), Catchin Time (7/2), Mead Vale (10/1), Cool Macavity (16/1), Silver Quay (25/1), Mr Lando (25/1), Thundering Home (33/1)

MAGICAL THOMAS was in great form during the summer and he is taken to register a third victory of 2018 in this handicap hurdle. The selection has the trip and forecast underfoot conditions to suit and he can get the better of Borak who was a winner last time out. Third place can go to Mead Vale who drops in trip and remains open to improvement.
