Cost €12,000 as a three-year-old, the gelding is out of dam that was placed in a bumper but didn't really set the world alight. Probably safe to just take notes as the youngster makes his racecourse bow.

Fell on debut in a point-to-point but was better second time out in that sphere. Needs to improve greatly from his moderate display on hurdling debut over C&D last month though.

Showed promise beyond the expectations of his starting odds when fourth her in a bumper in January but was regressive on hurdling debut last time out. Improvement required.

Bred to be effective over jumps and likely to know a more after his debut run in a bumper at Huntingdon in March. Off since then and yet to jump an obstacle in public, so a betting check is advised. Current good form of his yard very persuasive.

Consistent but well held in a couple of bumpers and one previous start over hurdles. Big step forward required.
Cost €25,000 and has hinted at ability in a couple of bumpers; looks the type to do well now he is presented with the challenge of jumping and could be a surprise package. One to consider if the market vibes are right.
Respectable effort in a point-to-point before joining his current trainer but was well beaten in bumper on rules debut at Chepstow. hard to fancy on that evidence in spite of his yard's red-hot form and the champion jockey doing the steering.

Readily outpaced when he came under pressure on debut in a bumper at Warwick back in April; another who needs to improve greatly now he switches to hurdles.
Finished in front of just one horse in each of his two previous starts and isn't too difficult to omit form the betting plans on the face value of those efforts.

Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: Benjamin Poste| T: M Scudamore
66/1
Hinted at ability but was tailed off at Ffos Las in moderate company when last seen out and looks one to be wary of a present.
Went for £10,000 at the Ascot sales in June and appeals on pedigree; Richard Johnson prefers stablemate Precious Bounty but this fellow showed improvement in a point-to-point when last seen and he could have an impact in what is a weak race here.

Forecasts

Massini Man (3/1), Panic And Run (3/1), Pemberley (5/1), Precious Bounty (5/1), Shanty Alley (8/1), Whatsmeanttobe (16/1), Loud As Lions (20/1), Dr Oakley (25/1), Telson Barley (28/1), Arcade Attraction (40/1), Turbotim (66/1)

Verdict

Not the strongest race of the day and unlikely we'll see a Cheltenham Festival prospect emerge from this test. However, it will be a good level for MASSINI MAN to make his debut over hurdles and, given the form of his yard, the gelding is the first one recommended to note when forming the shortlist of serious contenders. Pemberley is another to bear in mind if the market shows him in a positive light; while the Phillip Hobbs-trained pair: Precious Bounty and Whatsmeanttobe are others worth considering - the latter may be the better value option this time around.
  1. Massini Man
  2. Pemberley
  3. Whatsmeanttobe
