Extra Places At totesport.com Novice Stakes (Plus 10)

Off time: 18:17 | Winning time: 2m 6.46s

(6)

Brasca⁵⁸

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: R Kingscote| T: R M Beckett

11/8

60,000gns yearling; 4½L runner-up to a stablemate of Themaxwecan on debut at Leicester (1m, good to firm) in September; AW switch.

Form: 2

(2)

Duke Of Dunabar²²

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: David Probert| T: R A Teal

33/1

Cost £36,000 as a juvenile, and is a half-brother to six winners; hasn't figured over positively in a couple of turf starts at Bath (1m2f) so far.

Form: 05

(3)

Sea Battle⁶⁹

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: Charlie Bennett| T: H Morrison

25/1

Sent off at big prices on both starts on turf so far (7f), and has appeared to be a backward type; off the track for 69-days and gelded, so improvement could be forthcoming, albeit highly likely nowhere near enough.

Form: 00

(5)

Starczewski

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: J P Spencer| T: D M Simcock

5/1

28,000gns yearling; ninth foal; half-brother to four winners including US 7f-1m turf scorer Holiday Stone; market helpful.

Form:

(1)

Surrey Breeze

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: Edward Greatrex| T: A Watson

5/2

€35,000 yearling; fifth foal; half-brother to the 1m1f-1m2f winner Sark; stable going fairly well of late, so worthy of market inspection.

Form:

(7)

Waterfront³⁸

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: R Havlin| T: S & E Crisford

5/1

Half-brother to the 1m+ AW scorer Sun Hat, but was easy to back and slowly away on debut when finishing seventh of nine to Brian Epstein at Kempton (1m).

Form: 7

(4)

Brinkleys Katie²²

Age: 2| Weight: 8-11| J: Rhiain Ingram⁽⁵⁾| T: Paul George

66/1

Forecasts

Brasca (11/8), Themaxwecan (9/4), Surrey Breeze (5/2), Waterfront (5/1), Starczewski (5/1), Sea Battle (25/1), Duke Of Dunabar (33/1), Brinkleys Katie (66/1)

The pick of the newcomers is marginally Surrey Breeze (over Starczewski), but experience is likely to prove beneficial in this not overly competitive novice stakes race. Brasca was beaten comprehensively by a fairly useful stablemate of THEMAXWECAN on debut at Leicester in September, but given a reasonable amount of time off since should be sharper and wiser this evening. However, the penalised Bath winner is preferred, with that form franked by the runner-up Skymax (also trained by Ralph Beckett) at Newmarket.
