Horse A-Z
Hurdles debutante who showed ability in his sole bumper so far at Wincanton in April. Looked the type who was more of a stayer and could benefit from further than this 2m trip in time.

Formerly with Gary Moore for his sole bumper run he now makes his debut for a new yard going over hurdles for the first time. Half-brother to a hurdles winner but will need to settle better to have a chance in this having pulled hard in his bumper.
Progressed with each run in bumpers taking a soft ground event at Towcester on his third outing; stayed on strongly. Offered something to work on when he was sent hurdling; needs to jump a little better, sort to do better in time.

Both hurdles runs so far have looked as though they have been needed and this further experience will be welcome although he did start joint-favourite last time. Now back from a break it does look like handicaps will be more his forte.
Quickly left his debut bumper form behind when winning on his 2nd start in that discipline at Wincanton despite showing some inexperience. From a yard that are having a markedly better season than they did last and an interesting hurdles debutante.

Half-brother to four winners including a useful one over hurdles in Amore Alato but finished well held on his sole outing so far in a heavy ground bumper here in April. Now makes his hurdles debut and others looks better equipped for this.

Ludlow bumper winner on debut he ran well in two subsequent starts in the same sphere ending with a place in a Grade 2 Aintree bumper. Likely to make a decent start to his hurdles career for a yard that do well with their debutantes in novice events.

Took a bumper on his 2nd start when trained in Ireland but made little impact when tried over hurdles (maiden events). Now with a new yard he's probably best watched despite his hurdling experience.

Took a while to get off the mark in Irish point-to-points finally doing so at the 5th attempt. Now makes his GB debut having cost £10,000; not one who looks an obvious winner in this and likely to need further in time.

Only gained one placing from four starts in Irish point-to-points and despite having some useful relations looks highly tried on his hurdles debut.

Hard to make much of a case for this one based on his three bumper runs as he switches to hurdles for the first time. Would be a major surprise if he could win this first time up over obstacles.

One start in bumpers and the same amount over hurdles and has shown promise on both of those starts without screaming out that he was an immediate winner. Finished with something left in the tank last time and will be interesting once he has a mark.

Took his first two starts in bumpers (the first when with Tom Lacey) before finishing 11th in the Festival bumper. That race has already produced plenty of winners and if he learns to settle a not better he could well be another; hurdles debut.

Has a pedigree that isn't that much to look at but did show some promise on his debut in a recent Southwell bumper. Looks as though a greater test of stamina may be required to see him at his best and that form is fairly weak.

Made favourite on his debut he rather disgraced himself by virtually refusing to start and gave the field a big start before eventually jumping off. Behaved himself when next seen and displayed something more like his true ability; hurdles debut.

Well prepared for her bumper debut she won in good style over C&D before she was stepped right up in grade for a mares' Grade 2 bumper at Aintree (finished 4th). Showed plenty of aptitude for hurdling on her debut over 2m4f here in a mares' event.

Forecasts

The Big Bite (9/4), Meep Meep (9/4), Harambe (9/4), Ebony Gale (14/1), Jammy George (20/1), Tedham (25/1), Daydream Aulmes (40/1), Cilaos Glace (50/1), Boldmere (50/1), Top Of The Charts (50/1), Three Bullet Gate (100/1), Don Herbager (100/1), Legend Of Zorro (100/1), Eva's Oskar (150/1), Monkey Harris (200/1), Rowley Park (200/1)

Verdict

There should be plenty to take out of this maiden hurdles which contains some good prospects. Harambe showed plenty of promise in bumpers last year and excelled himself when gaining a place in a Grade 2 Aintree bumper. Aintree bumper form is also represented by Meep Meep who has already won here in a bumper before her excellent run in a Grade 2 bumper at the Grand National meeting; she faces a stiffer test here in open company over a shorter trip than her hurdles debut. The Festival bumper is often a rich source of hurdles winners and THE BIG BITE could well add to that score on his hurdles debut as long as he settles better. Ebony Gale, Tedham and Top Of The Charts are others to note.
  1. The Big Bite
  2. Harambe
  3. Ebony Gale
