Ran well in a couple Grade 2 contests last year and looked to have needed his first outing of the year at Ffos Las off a 3lb higher mark. Still looks competitive off marks such as these and entitled to take a hand in this with that run tucked away.

Recorded a couple of fine victories last year over hurdles and fences as well as finishing 2nd in the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock. Unseated his rider when last seen in the Grand National and now reverts to hurdles for his seasonal debut.

Tends to struggle once his handicap mark climbs above 135 (last two wins off that mark) and turned in a rare poor effort when last seen. Twice a C&D winner he returns here after a break but still remains on an awkward mark.

Consistent sort who has built on his bumper win scoring twice over hurdles the second time over 2m6f off 127. Quickly returned to hurdling after a couple of chase starts (never out of the first three over hurdles) and his record gives him a chance.

Looked to have lost his way when trained in Ireland by Joseph O'Brien but came back to life from out of the blue to score over C&D last month (still looked a hard ride). Up 7lb for that win he may not respond as well to pressure this time.

Petticoat Tails199
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-3| J: R Johnson| T: W Greatrex| OR:  125| D
11/4
Took a pair of novice hurdles either side of the New Year on soft/heavy ground (looked idle) and ran a couple of fair races in handicaps subsequently. Still features on a workable mark and there may be a little more to come this season.

Crixus's Escape195
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-2| J: B S Hughes| T: G Boanas| OR:  124

Failed to meet expectations on his bumper debut but made up for that by taking his first two hurdles (both at Hexham; 2m). Still unexposed now going handicapping for the first time and open to improvement over this trip and in this sphere.

Blunder Buss28
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-0| J: Liam Quinlan(7)| T: C Grant| OR:  122
15/2
Consistent enough in his novice starts his opening mark in handicaps looked a workable one and he showed improved form to win on his debut in that sphere. Looked to need the run on reappearance (jumped poorly; mark demands more.

Court Tycoon18
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-0| J: T Scudamore| T: Peter Fahey| OR:  119| D
10/1
Won a maiden hurdle at Wexford (2m4f) in the summer on quick ground but hasn't really built on that although tried over further twice. Mark looks a stiff one on his 3rd handicap start and runs from 3lb out of the handicap; hard to fancy.

Forecasts

Petticoat Tails (11/4), Ch'tibello (7/2), Aspen Colorado (5/1), Dubai Angel (7/1), Blunder Buss (15/2), Court Tycoon (10/1), Crixus's Escape (14/1), One For Harry (14/1), Captain Redbeard (28/1)

Verdict

Petticoat Tails is one of the protagonists who looks as though she could take a step forward this year especially off this sort of mark although enthusiasm is tempered by the fact that she might just need her first run of the season. One For Harry is one of two or three that look to have difficult tasks off their marks while Crixus’s Escape is interesting but has to prove himself in this sphere. Dubai Angel is a very solid sort and looks sure to run well but the vote overall goes to CH'TIBELLO despite top weight he’s a classy sort who can outclass last time out winner Aspen Colorado who isn’t certain to reproduce his last run.
  1. Ch'tibello
  2. Dubai Angel
  3. Petticoat Tails
